Buyers beware! These guys left me and my kids sitting on the floor!
A week ago yesterday my daughter and I visited the store looking to purchase a ceiling fan. While looking around I living room suite caught my eye, so I inquired as to the price with the stores advertised 30% off sale. Although I wasn’t in the market to purchase one it was what I thought at the time a great deal, so I contacted a family member with a truck and trailer to ensure if I purchased it that I could get it home.
I paid for what I thought was a three piece set since it was clearly a set and only had one tag. I was given my receipt along with three individual sheets of paper that I completed with my name and phone number to tag the pieces as sold.
Excited my daughter and I left the store and went to Walmart and had two gallons of paint tinted to paint our walls. The following day I took a half a day off work to load up and donate my living room furniture to a local family in need after the tornado in Greensboro and returned to the store to pick my new furniture up.
I had turned in my copy of the three slips for what was supposed to have been three pieces of furniture and loaded it up on the trailer. Gone back into the store and ended up purchasing an area rug and floor lamp and loaded it.
Now having gone back into the store for the third time my step mother had done settled on buying a kitchen table and chairs, an area rug and hardwood flooring. In total we had spent at minimum 1.5 hours there. Just before she was going up to purchase the items she had picked out I was approached by the Asst Manager who proceeded to tell me that I had only purchased a chair; not all three pieces.
Said it was an honest mistake that someone had removed the tags from the other two pieces and that the price I was given was only for a chair, despite the fact I had a slips for all three pieces.
I agreed to unload the furniture while we tried to come to some sort of feasible resolution seeing as how I now had donated my furniture. I was pretty much told that I could either pay for what they were asking for the other two pieces or they would refund my money.
Never mind the fact that my name and number were on three pieces in the store all day long and a simple phone call to explain the mixup would have prevented me giving my furniture away. Never mind the fact that they made a mistake. It was that I should have known and asked to speak to the assistant manager to make sure I was paying the correct amount for all three pieces. I was literally told that it was my fault. The young guy who took my money and had me fill out three slips of paper for three pieces of furniture didn’t typically work the counter and didn’t realize.
Excuse me but just how is any consumer supposed to know that anyone able to work the cash register not the right guy? How is any consumer supposed to know that when there is only one price tag on a three piece set that there are two price tags missing? How is any consumer supposed to know that when you fill out three tags for three pieces of furniture that you’d get to the store and find out no one had the common curtesy to call you and let you know so that you don’t show up with a truck and trailer to pick it up?
Even worse is that when I stressed to the executive director, Wanda that I had given my furniture away not knowing any better to make a place for the furniture I was supposed to be picking up and that I simply didn’t have what they were asking for to buy the other pieces and that me and my kids would be left to sit on the floor her response was that she could refund my money but that they couldn’t sell me new furniture for what I had paid even though the mistake was on their end.
I mean what kind of business is this? Especially a nonprofit that received the furniture as a donation to begin with? I wasn’t trying to get something for nothing. It was an honest mistake but how I was treated and the total lack of accountability and sympathy for the situation I was now in for doing nothing wrong was and is...
Read moreDidn't have the amount of different item like used to and prices are higher than expected. Now sell like new/returns from Target & Wayfair including HBA, Petcare, furnishing & lighting that was not as cheap as it used to be. I ran thru store 2x back to back same day and interesting items were overpriced or grouped together for purchase definitely for contractors & house flippers and not so much for individual home owners. Bulk deals that makes it not viable choice for households. I made two trips because they no longer have a bathroom that you can use after browsing for very long so had to leave and go to Ready Mart towards town then came back. Still no good deals...
Read moreI do feel like these places charge to much on some things, when it is donated to them and the r chargeing hundreds of dollars that is greed. Plan and simple when u get it for free and u say u r helping people then how can u charge the prices they do. Example they get a tank less hot water heater for free and put a price of 700 to 1000 dollars that is greed. Sure it would be more in the department store but that is way people go here, because they can't pay department store prices. Most people that go here can't pay that kind of...
