I had been volunteering there for 6 months. I started when they just implemented their new dog walking and volunteer policy. I abided by their new rules of undergoing their training hours and spent much of my personal time volunteering as I very much enjoyed spending time with the dogs specifically. I recently decided to foster as they had sent out an email asking for foster because they were full. After getting the puppy, she was very sick with worms and became sick with kennel cough. I multiple times voiced this to the staff uncharge of fostering and they seemed to become quite annoyed. After coming in to tell them about her kennel cough and they brushing it off, I did not trust them, as the puppy had been super lethargic all day, I took her to the vet. After multiple radiographs and blood work, she was admitted and kept over night only to be diagnosed with worms again and put on 3 different antibiotics, all which I more than happily paid for out of my own pocket because LCHS didn't seem to care enough and brushed it off. Sunday (6/10/18), when bringing her back from foster, I cried because I had built a bond with her. I took her to work every day, I never left her alone, but I couldn't adopt her as I am prior military and will be getting a service dog in August and felt it wouldn't be fair to her, or the dog I receive if I wasn't able to give one or the other my full attention. Since the puppy had been sick for the 3 weeks I had fostered her, she was supposed to be checked out to make sure she was healthy enough to go up for adoption. However, when they took her, they just gave her shots and said she was good, thus making it very much seem as though they just wanted her back to put her up for adoption to make money off of her, although she had just had worm 2 days prior. Monday (6/11/18) the day of their adoption event, I went to check on her to see if she had been adopted and she was extremely lethargic again. While holding her, an employee came in and snatched her from my hands stating, "WE ARE CLOSING AND I HAVE TO TAKE HER OUT!" Having been volunteering there for the last 6 months and knowing the protocol, her actions and attitude were uncalled for. I asked, "Has she been barking all day? Why is she so lethargic?" Her response with an attitude, "I don't know, she has been quiet all day," and stormed out. I worried about her walked out crying and another employee that knows me approached me asking what was wrong, I explained the situation and as we were standing there talking, the same employee that had taken the puppy out started to bring her back inside. I tried to pet her and say goodbye to her and she didn't even stop or acknowledge my existence. Having spent much of my own time there to walk, jog-a-dog, take better pictures of their animals to have them post on their website for adoptions, spend my personal money to sponsor heart worm treatments, and spend my time at their shelter their level of professionalism is absolutely unacceptable. Upon taking this up with the woman who currently runs LCHS, the excuse for the employee was it had been a long day. Well, she chose the wrong person to be rude to after a long day. As a veteran of the Marine Corps who has worked numerous long days and through many lunch breaks (another excuse they used), there is absolutely no reason to treat anyone the way they have, long day or not. Their kennel staff is amazing. However, their front desk staff and some managers are absolutely unprofessional and down right rude. As a nonprofit organization, they operate off of volunteers and donations and it would probably be in their best interest to have much better customer service and not treat anyone who has so graciously put their time and money towards their shelter and animals like they are a burden. I will no longer associate with LCHS or anyone that does business with them, and as I am now, will make sure people are well aware of how rudely they treat volunteers and fosters. I have spoken with other volunteers who have also stated that they're rude to them as well.

They are extremely full so they did not have a room where I could interact with the kittens, I could only hold them in the lobby. I would have liked to seen how they acted with me being free to come to me or not. Also, they were extremely busy on Saturday and it took a while for me to be waited on, probably because only one guy was doing all of it and there was a big discussion going on about the doggy virus with him and some customers. I was pretty bothered because I had an appointment for noon to pick up the kittens and I did not get out of there until 1:00. Another issue is they did not disclose to me ahead of time they medical record of the kittens. If I would have known they had such a history of illness, I might have thought twice about getting them. To their credit though, they did give me the senior discount and held the babies for me until I could pick them up on Saturday, since I am in Montgomery and they're in Auburn. Also on the plus side, is one of the kittens' wonderful foster mother who has been keeping in touch with me and was nice enough to pick up a kitty treat from Aldi and is a very nice lady who became my friend. The other foster mother and I didn't really communicate hardly at all and she seemed irritated when I asked her questions about the kitten. So all in all, a tumultuous experience that could have gone a lot smoother. But I am happy to have the kittens home with me and they were well taken care of.

It does not matter if you applied and have been approved. They will have you come in and love on the pet and then deny you once you’ve made a bond with a beautiful baby and that baby has bonded with you. BE WARNED!! If you are 100% honest and transparent about letting a cat live a full life and telling them that within that life span they will be able to go outside for exercise and some fun, they will deny you a kitten under 6 months. That you are willing to make a 15-20 year commitment to. We have learned a valid lesson and that is to lie on your application because what they did was absolutely heartbreaking. I only hope that she gets a good and loving home like we would have provided because as a Stay at home Pharm rep and Postal worker that cat would have gotten the best care and love ever. Thank you for the lesson and be warned if you are younger and possibly a minority and 100% honest they will deny you. You are loved in our hearts Sketchers and I hope you find a good home.

I adopted the sweetest kittens who are sisters. However, I encountered a bad experience with setting appointments and completing paperwork. First of all, I scheduled an appointment to meet some kittens to potentially adopt. When I got there, nobody greeted or offered to help me. I waited 30 minutes. Other potential customers were helped first. I stood there politely waiting. Finally after waiting 30 minutes, I asked one of the workers about seeing some kittens and I had an appointment. It was mass confusion in that room!! Workers appeared to be extremely overwhelmed. A worker finally said , oh go ahead and look. The cats and kittens are down the hallway. I had no help and no one to ask questions. I left frustrated by the lack of service & confusion of people going in all different ways! After a few days, I looked on Facebook and found a kitten in foster care. So I finally got to the correct staff person to make me an appointment with the foster parent. That meeting did go well. The foster parent was super nice. I ended up adopting both kittens. The paperwork was a disaster! I felt very rushed with people coming in and out, no place to sit or write. Staff threw one paper down after another, “here sign this”. Nothing was gone over because staff we’re multitasking. It was loud in the room, a couple came in with a baby in a huge stroller& it was worse than being in an airport or AU football game. I heard and read about turning in yellow vouchers by March 2023, but missed turning it in within 7 days after being spayed. Now I have a “denial” in which I will not be getting my $100 back and “thank you for donating to the Lee county humane society. I was 1 day late and 2 of those days they were closed! I called them numerous times to find out how to get the yellow voucher forms to them. Finally I got someone on the phone and she provided the email. Personally since my last experience in the lobby, I did not want to go back in there. Oh yay, I had to hold the kittens at the front desk, no quiet room and the kittens were scared to death! One jumped across the counter & the staff grabbed her quickly. I spoke with Josh on the phone. He claims everything is well explained and outlined in the paperwork. He said hours are clearly written on their website. I am fine with donating to organizations like this one. Obviously Josh hasn’t noticed the intake process, maybe he should observe. He was not helpful and accused me of not being able to follow a “simple and clear process “. I don’t need my money, it’s not about money at all! It’s about setting up your intake in a more private and quiet atmosphere so that potential customers aren’t stressed and poor cats aren’t freaked out! Just a desk people can sit? Forfeiting fees with only a 7 day time period after procedure is...

This place has gone severely downhill since they changed from the Auburn Humane Society. I adopted my first German Shepherd there and she was the love of my life. I went this time and found a German shepherd pup. The girl who showed him to me said since he is not neutered pay $60 and take him home today. Then I spent an hour Filling out a form, which I Had already filled out. I said OK can I take him home? NO! He has to be neutered and you have to wait for the adoption approval before you can take him home sometime within two weeks. They literally told me my adoption was approved as I pulled out of the parking lot, I called my Vet who is a friend and he said he would do it so I could take the dog home. I was donating $500 a month to this place, but I didn’t want to rub it in their face because it obviously was not going to good use. They told me I could not pay by credit card and had to pay In person with check or cash. I could have easily called them and paid with a credit. I got three different answers from three different. I tried calling them to tell them I was going to be late and after 11 calls. No one answered the phone. Still could have paid by credit card. Apparently, a family member in the hospital is not as important as $60 to them. I came in there today to pay for the dog that they were holding for me. Guess what!? They said we are not doing business with you and we already adopted out the dog. Way to go! You have heard yourself -5 stars. For lying three times about the same policy and then lying about the fact that you were holding my dog when you knew I was coming in today. My advice would be shop don’t adopt because this is basically shopping. The place is filthy and you can feel fleas crawling all Over you the second you walk in. I had a tragic incident with a family member that made me like an hour late only to find out I could have paid with a credit card And they basically said screw you to my face we don’t want to do And gave away the dog that I loved. Doesn’t matter they’ll be shut down before long. Why do you ask? Because not a single employee in the establishment knows what their job is and not a single employee knows how to answer a question. Answers to the question we don’t take credit cards. Charge 3% when we do take credit cards wait so you do do take credit cards so I could have paid for the dog Days ago. Thanks for nothing but disappointing my family. Some say we don’t deserve dogs and I know dogs deserve way better...
