DO NOT FLY AMERICAN AIRLINES THROUGH AUGUSTA REGIONAL AIRPORT!
All of the following was caught on camera by the AGS AA ticketing counter for American Airlines Managerial personnel to review in reference to this complaint. I’m not typically the type to write a poor performance review, but never in my 25 years of flying and 9 years of active service within the DoD have I ever experienced such an unprofessional encounter at all levels of personnel from American Airlines staff.
Our negative experience began on Sunday when our flight had to be rescheduled, but the review is centered on the interactions that occurred on Tuesday, 20DEC2022 between 1000-1230 EST. The AGS AA Ground Crew Manager, who identified himself as “Dave”, was completely unprofessional in his interactions while I tried to address a discrepancy between guidance I had received from the AA Reservations Desk and the information that one of Dave’s junior employees was providing to me at the ticketing counter. I see Dave as holistically responsible, completely apathetic, and intentionally combative toward my wife and I.
Problem #1: Dave took over 2 hours simply to come to the ticketing counter. This delay occurred after I explicitly asked to speak to a manager within 10 minutes of my first interaction with one of his junior supervisors. I was given multiple 1-800 numbers while I waited to talk to a live person (Dave).
Problem #2: The AGS AA crew regularly left the ticketing counter unattended while paying customers waited in line.
Problem #3: One of Dave’s junior supervisors, “Al” actually put his finger in my face as I tried to speak with him, raised his voice at me, and made remarks under his breath when I again asked for the manager.
Problem #4: When Dave finally made his way out to the ticketing counter, he was rushing toward me in an angry manner with a sneer, threatened to have me removed from my flight for “raising my voice” in an area full of witnesses who can confirm I was perfectly calm.
Problem #5: To make matters worse, after we identified that I had ALL of the necessary paperwork for travel, Dave began to raise his voice to talk over me and said my documents were expired, inferring I was lying.
Problem #6: Dave’s behavior was witnessed by his entire staff. If this is the sort of behavior that Dave’s staff sees and believes to be appropriate, I anticipate a number of similar complaints about this man and his staff have already been made. I have been flying with American Airlines since the early 2000s and have NEVER encountered such an unpleasant cohort of people.
Problem #8: It is readily apparent that the Augusta Regional Airport American Airlines staff is either insufficiently trained or negligent in their responsibilities to understand their own policies and procedures.
Problem #9: Dave felt he had the authority to modify AA regulations to suit his own feelings toward me. I provided Dave every piece of documentation he requested in order to approve my travel. When Dave ran out of paperwork-related options to deny my request, I finally asked Dave to confirm it was his PERSONAL choice not to honor the arrangements that had been made with the Reservation Desk, to which he simply responded “yes, this is my final decision. We are done! Have a nice day…” and abruptly walked away after having already done so multiple times having to be called back to the counter.
To conclude, the behavior exhibited by Dave and the majority of his staff was completely uncalled for. I hope sincerely that American Airlines does not endorse this behavior during customer interactions. When able, I am filing a formal complaint about Dave’s behavior to American Airlines’ corporate office. The AGS AA staff has cost me hundreds of dollars and hours of my time in a concerted effort to deny my access to previously approved travel.
I would like to be contacted by American Airlines in reference to...
Read moreI will forever regret not getting this lady's name that works at the Delta Baggage Check Counter - She's a short 30-40s African-American lady with the braided hair, beads, and glasses. She was wearing a red polo and black pants. I just wanted to say thank you!
I had booked my flight over a month in advance to see family in Chicago. AGSORD was the cheapest option. I tracked flights for over 2 weeks made my choice with to fly with Delta once again and it was done.
I had been in the hiring process with South Carolina Highway Patrol since March, I was fortunate enough to get a conditional job offer and had 4 doctor related appointments and a drug test all in the same day at different locations before I flew out at 6pm and I had a 1.5 hr drive to AGS from NE Columbia.
Everything had gone according to plan even buying a new one-way ticket because I had to cut my trip short because of job-related engagements. Delta Support couldn’t move my ticket I had already bought without it costing more than buying a new flight altogether. So I spent another $170 for a one-way.
So I make it to all my appointments submit my paperwork via email, walk out the door and drive to AGS. I am walking into the airport checking my e-mail for flight information and see I have an email from my SCHP Recruiter saying a medical form wasn’t signed on their SCDPS letterhead and they need it transferred from the doctor's office paperwork to their letterhead.
All of my paperwork had to be turned in and completed while I was going to be out of town so I had to get this resolved before I flew out. Doctor’s Office wouldn’t let my emergency/record contact bring the paper in because they were transcribing to a piece of paper that wasn’t theirs.
So I went to the baggage ticket counter and was just going to see what could be done and how much it was going to cost me before making a 1.5hr drive back home to run to the doctor's office.
The lady that helped me was so kind and understanding, I literally told her I have just gotten a conditional job offer had a ton of appointments today, a paper wasn’t signed at one of the doctor's offices and I'm going to miss this flight, what can be done?
She moved my flight to the first plane out of my home airport in Columbia, moved my return flight from my original ticket to the desired return date of the one-way ticket I purchased earlier in the week. Refunded my one-way ticket in full and also picked me the best seats I could ask for I literally did not change a seat via Delta App once.
I have flown Delta in the past, never had an issue with them, but I can say without a doubt this was the most pleasurable customer service experience I have ever had. It had been a long day a lot of driving and I was spent. She was caring, sympathetic, and compassionate a fantastic employee and I will fly Delta over any other airline until I have kids cause then it's...
Read moreNICE and easy to navigate, AGS has fast security, quick baggage claim and many ground transportation options. This airport is crazy busy in March and April for the Masters, but otherwise is a fast and easy trip. The airport is regional and not an airport for connections, so the bar and restaurant options are rather limited. That said, my server and bartender were very friendly and I enjoyed everything more than most airports. The gift shop is small, but has what you need. If you fly here from Atlanta or Charlotte, be sure to check your options and always take the larger aircraft options (e.g. Delta's MD-88). The smaller jets may mean you walk on the tarmac, which is OK if the weather is nice.
PROS: EASY to get around FRIENDLY staff, which is very rare and a charm about Augusta FAST service and bags You are in AUGUSTA-Golf capital of the U.S. (be sure to play) Lots of rental car options that are easy and close by Uber picks up RIGHT to the curb Easy pick-up and drop off I heard the Military Lounge (USO) is nice for the size of the airport American Airlines and Delta have frequent flights in and out
CONS: Some people say there are often delays into Atlanta or Charlotte--both of which are super-busy airports. I have not had a delay on my 5 flights so far. Small restaurant outside of security has limited hours Airport is nice, but a bit dated. Don't come here early to hang out No covered parking. I hate to leave my car in the sun or weather for days, so I always have to Uber here, which is OK, but worth noting This is a regional airport, so your main options are to go to Atlanta on Delta or Charlotte on American. Not much to do here. AVOID the smaller planes. They are not comfortable, MUCH more likely to get delayed, cramped and you feel the turbulence. When you book on AA or Delta--look at the aircraft size and type. This will have a big impact on your experience. My preferred flights into Augusta are on Delta and the MD-88, which has Comfort+ and First Class for very reasonable prices. Flight to or from Atlanta or Charlotte are very short... under 30 min.
All in all, this airport serves a city the metro area of Augusta (about 600,000 people) well. Many people drive to Atlanta or Charlotte. But this airport is good if you have business here, come to golf or are on a tight schedule and do not want to drive to Atlanta (bad traffic), Charlotte or Columbia, S.C. I will use this...
