Long time subscriber to Green Chef but canceled today. We enjoy the recipes, variety of choices and the mostly organic ingredients. There have been some semi-regular hiccups with missing or spoiled ingredients (think slimy cilantro) which I’ve either just replaced on my own or been credited for after reporting to Green Chef (not a big deal). Last week, for the 2nd time, a delivery did not arrive (although Green Chef assured me it was just delayed). By the following day with still no sign of the box, Green Chef said they would refund me but what I received was a credit on my account towards a future box. Six days after the original scheduled delivery the box arrived. It was a hot mess, literally. Repackaged contents dumped in an actual garbage bag and put in a new box that was soggy, leaking and stinking. We were home so did not miss the delivery. Customer service put me on hold while they “verified my story”, which was indeed verifiable. The additional charge for organic meat was refunded, but the price of the box itself was a credit on future boxes. I stated this solution was not acceptable to me so was offered an $18.00 credit (about 1 of the 8 standard meals I typically order) as another credit another week later. Judging from all the direct marketing offers I receive from Green Chef, they spend a lot to recruit new subscribers. I wish they would spend a fraction of what they offer a new subscriber to address their issues and retain me as a customer. This is a service that sells convenience, but it is very inconvenient to count on meals that don’t arrive, then plan and shop last minute to replace what didn’t arrive, make multiple call to customer service and deal with the leaky, stinky bag of garbage dripping on my porch. I believe UPS delivers Green Chef even though Hello Fresh owns them and has their own delivery vehicles. We had Hello Fresh for a long time too but wanted organic ingredients so switched, but never had a delivery issue with them. Making so little effort to retain loyal customers will likely make it hard to build subscription numbers-it’s a...
Read moreI've tried several meal kits over the years and I have to say Green Chef is one of the absolute worst. Website and mobile app experiences are incredibly buggy and customer service is just atrocious.
First, they lure you in with some "incredible" discounts on your first box, which admittedly look to be a great deal. However after signing up you quickly learn that if you want to choose a meal outside of the pre-selected menu, the choices are very limited if you don't want to shell out another $8-$10 PER SERVING since most options are considered "gourmet" (spoiler alert: there is nothing gourmet about these meals).
Second, the notifications absolutely do not work. Settings on the app/web may say that you'll get an mobile or email notification regarding an upcoming order so you know if you want to skip or change meals, but there are no notifications whatsoever. I only realized that my order shipped because either PayPal or my CC app notified me of new charges.
Third, customer service will do absolutely nothing to help you. They will claim once an order is charged (even though it won't ship for another 3+ days), there is nothing they can do to modify the selection. This is the only meal kit company I've dealt with who claims this can't be done.
Fourth, the meal kits are just mediocre at best. Quality of ingredients is sub-par: I've received string beans that are all brown and wilted, kale that's incredibly old that the whole bunch just had to be thrown out, and tomatoes that were actually rotten. There is also nothing "green" about the packaging. Every single little thing comes in a plastic bag that's about 7x-10x larger than it should be and nothing besides the box itself is recyclable. And the taste of most meals is just plain bland.
Overall this is a really poor excuse for a meal kit company and I advise anyone looking to try it to consider any...
Read moreTheir subscription service and their customer service is terrible, even though their meal kit was good.
I was promised by one of their chat reps on March 21, 2023 that I would receive an email notification before another order would be placed and my account charged.
Yet I open my email this morning to find that they have placed another order for me, charged my account, and now tell me that the charge is not eligible for a refund, and that the order will arrive April 29th whether I want it or not.
I have received no correspondence regarding this upcoming charge after being assured over a month ago that I would receive an email notification prior to any further orders, and now they tell me it is too late to cancel?
Very sketchy company. The email communications regarding this unauthorized charge have been insulting.
I did receive a response shortly after my email request for a refund this morning but after replying to this response, I got a response from a different agent, and thereafter to each of my replies I get yet a different agent responding. All saying this, or a variation thereof, "... it's already 4 days prior to your delivery date. On that day, we charge the customers for their upcoming box. Even though we can't process a refund for this because the system is no longer letting any compensation, we can still make changes like moving the delivery date, editing some meals, or changing your meal size."
I might have continued with them at a later date, but I will NOT be ordering from them again. If you don't have a good customer service team, then you don't have good management. To me that puts the owners...
