Family Dollar — Local services in Avenal

I was driving from Santa Barbara up to Sacramento and like most of us on a budget with most of the money going into the gas tank. My 8 month old puppy deserved a treat so we stopped here. The clearance bin said up to 50% off of stuffed animals so I let him pick one out and with the 50% off it would only have been $2.50. as we walked down the pet aisle he found a bone that he couldn't live without and couldn't decide between the two so finally I have into get both seeing as how one was half off. The lady that rang me up told me the stuffed animal was not on sale. She then asked her associate to double check the price so she grabbed the exact same item from the 50% off bin. It still rang up as full price. I told the cashier I could only afford the bone then and the cashier replied, "well your dog was already chewing on it." I said well I wouldn't have allowed that if it hadn't been clearly marked as half off in the clearance bin with multiples of the same item. I said I would gladly pay for the bone and the price I was led to believe it should have been. The cashier said no. Long story short The associate who went to grab the other stuffed animal to double check the price for me ended up paying for my puppies two items. I said no that was ok, but she refused and went on to pay for my things. And that was the sweetest thing and it did my heart good to know that there are still genuine caring people and that they are not as horrible as the cashier that rang me up. The kids that work at this store are as sweet as they can be and go out of their way to be helpful to the customers. The store is atrocious and it is not their fault. There are not enough workers and the crowds. there literally distroy this store daily. . There is no storage when stock comes in and no where to put it but up and down the aisles making it dangerous with stuff stacked up on carts to fall on people or especially little children let alone to get to products. It is just sad that we have a store that can offer more reasonable prices and a little bit of everything you could need and it has to be such an eyesore. Once again this is not on or the fault of the people that work there. They work hard all the time. The outside is as bad if not worse. The 5 stars is for reasonable prices and above all else the people...

Prices are great, but extremely slow service! And i mean extremely slow. Always have only one register open with a huge line, rude people at the register, most seem like they dont want to be there which is a recipe for disaster. Whoever runs this place seems like they do not pay any attention to what is going on and must have a blindfold on.
