Wide open places to camp, good road in and miles of hard pan to camp. Beautiful sunsets with a great view no matter which way you’re pointing. StarLink works great and there’s cell service albeit weak.

Dumont Dunes is 100% boondocking with no services or hook-ups. There are vault toilets conveniently scattered around the grounds but plan to bring your own TP. With no dumpsters available, it is also 100% “pack in-pack out”. Make sure you’re good on water and your holding tanks empty as there is no dump station for miles

Please don’t dump grey or black on the ground. It’s not just disgusting, it’s illegal. Macerate into a vault toilet if your tanks get full, there’s plenty out there.

I’d rate this place a solid five stars as it is top shelf BUT even though it’s BLM property, the America the Beautiful Interagency Access Pass is not valid here.

It’s $30 a week to camp if you don’t have the $120 for a season pass. For everything I could see, there is no daily rate.

Once you pay your access fee, you’ll need a “fire permit” if you want to use your gas grill. A permit to use a propane grill in the middle of the desert next to a sand dune (smh).

Lastly, you want to use your OHV, you need a blue sticker (for yet...

Dumont Dunes... family friendly! Plenty of room on the sand for everyone. There is riding for soft sand and hard packed off road vehicles. The outhouses are well kept (although the one closest to the vendors tends to get dirty quickly due to heavy traffic.)

One suggestion for pet owners, prepare them for loud noises and chilly weather. Dogs occasionally wander off, distraught from loud noises. Every time I go in see heavy hearted owners searching for their 4 legged family members. Glow collars, tags with current info, temporary doggy pens, etc....

Discovering this camping and ATV riding destination felt like stumbling upon a hidden oasis in the Sahara. The majestic sand dunes provide an exhilarating backdrop for riding and relaxation. One of our favorite side trips is a 25-mile journey to China Ranch, a charming date farm near Dumont. Their delightful date shakes and a quaint trinket store make it a must-visit during any camping adventure. The combination of thrilling dunes and the oasis-like charm of China Ranch adds a unique flavor to the overall experience – a perfect getaway for ATV...
