There are many dude ranches in Bandera. This ranch worked well for my family since I have 3 boys ages 9, 17 and 19. They have a great working knowledge of dealing with kids of all ages.
The cabins are duplexes, one side had a one bedroom with attached bath and a living room area with a fireplace. They supplied the firewood also. The other side of the duplex had two bedrooms with 3 queen beds and a bathroom. It was a perfect setup for a family with 3 kids. If you are tired if the hotel industry that tells you when you try to make reservations with three kids that you have too many children, the Mayan ranch is the place to go. The founders of the ranch had 12 kids, 10 biological and 2 adopted. The cabins are kid friendly, no glass tables and no cute things that little boys can bust, which translates into less stress for the parents. The cabins were designed by folks that understand family. We love our children, but would really rather not to have to share the bathroom if possible. There were also two televisions which also helps.
My 19 year old has worked at horse ranches and he was very impressed with the horses. He said that all of the horses were good horses. I'm a inexperienced rider, but I enjoyed both of my assigned horses. I would highly recommend this vacation for over worked moms. It is great to have someone else cook breakfast, lunch and dinner and then entertain the kids with things like piñata and games. Did I mention that wine and beer were also included. The saloon was a cozy place to enjoy the other adults.
One activity that was billed as a marshmellow roast, actually was a great time for the kids since the site of the roast, Hickville is a large playground with slide, teepee, old western jail and church building. The kids had a great time bonding and becoming great pals. The adults ate the marshmellows. We visited in January and had beautiful cool weather. The gentleman that the ranch arranged to come in and set up his expensive telescope was an unexpected extra attraction. The price was our weekend was very reasonable give the large family friendly accomodations, activities and included meals. This ranch understands...
Read moreLisa Miller - We just got home from spending 3 nights at the Mayan Dude Ranch in Bandera TX. We were definitely not disappointed. The staff was wonderful and so hospitable. You can definitely tell it is more than just a job to them. They truly love what they do and put the customer first. Kelly greeted us so cheerful and positive when we arrived and every morning when we came in for our coffee. She definitely goes above and beyond to make this a wonderful experience Judy was so nice and took time to talk with us and answer any questions we had. She was so genuinely concerned about the guests. Ryan was awesome getting us ready for the horse ride. He was so kind and understanding with some of our physical limitations. He helped choose the right horse so that we were able to ride. You can see his love for people and the horses. All of the other staff was just as wonderful and I only wish I knew their names to include as well. None the less they were wonderful as well.
The entire place is so well kept. The cabins are clean and well maintained. The grounds are clean and not cluttered anywhere with trash. The food was amazing and plenty of it, you definitely will not go hungry. Even the lunches served are full course meals, not a quick throw together meal. They did not run out of food at any single meal. The cowboy breakfast is amazingly delicious and all the deer you see when you ride out on the hayride is definitely a once in a lifetime experience.
There is so many activities throughout the entire day should you choose to participate. There is also amazing spot on Medina river to go fishing. We were lucky enough to catch a couple the little while we fished.
Our cabin area was so peaceful and beautiful. We had deer probably 50 feet from our cabin door each morning.
It is definitely worth the money. If you are set back by the price please know that everything is included. 3 full course meals, drinks, horseback riding, multiple activities daily and only thing you need to bring is yourself and have fun. We will definitely...
Read moreI struggle to write in words just how truly amazing this place is. Honestly, if you are even thinking of booking it - BOOK IT NOW. ||My partner and I (both in our 30s) travelled to Texas to complete a 16 day road trip. We were desperate to find a ranch to stay on to experience the cowboy life and what better place than Bandera - the cowboy capital of the world. I must express how much we absolutely, thoroughly enjoyed staying here. The ranch is ran by the most wonderful, kind and welcoming family - we felt at home from the minute we arrived and we really struggled leaving. They cannot do enough for you and the food is amazing! We had a different menu across 3 nights and the food was superb. We honestly could have stayed just here for two whole weeks. There is so much to do and the horse rides are amazing, there are deers everywhere and we even saw Armadillos! We urge you to get stuck in with all of the experiences as they are really so much fun. ||One horse ride in particular was especially magical...given my partner secretly exchanged numbers with wrangler Ryan and proposed to me on horse back in the most beautiful part of the ranch. I want to personally thank Ryan and the ranch for accomodating this and making it so special. We greatly appreciate it and it will be a memory we will keep forever (thanks to Ryan's photography!!) I attach a couple of photos. ||We would come back to this ranch in a heartbeat and we have recommended this place to anyone who will listen. It is a MUST if you are going to Texas! We did not want to leave, we want to come back already and we have even started researching how we move here. We loved it so much! THANK YOU MAYAN DUDE RANCH! Keep doing what you're doing! All our love, Reece...
