As an avid hiker from Colorado mostly familiar with this kind of terrain, I can say that it was definitely underwhelming. But hey, I am from Colorado, so don't take my criticism too severely. I hiked up Champlain mountain via Beachcroft Path before hiking down Champlain's South Ridge, looping up to the Beehive, and meeting family at Sandy Beach. And of course, the Beehive is one of the most famous areas in Acadia, and that shows. There are mobs of people on this trail, shockingly most of them without as much as hiking boots! It really wasn't strenuous, as 80% of my time was spent waiting for the long line ahead of me to get up the mountain. Still, I completed it in less than an hour. I have to assume most people that considered this trail scary, challenging, or whatever else don't usually hike. My family (4'10 wife and 8 y/o son) felt cheated when we reached the summit. We individually exclaimed, "that's it?" in unison. Yes, the views are beautiful, but if it wasn't because we did this at 730am, we'd never wait on line for this trail. All this to say, if you've ever actually hiked before, this trail is a cakewalk. If you only hike on vacation, you'll find...
