The 5 stars is for the view and not for the location so to speak. There is an unassuming dirt lot off the highway with a sign marker explaining the area. The view is very interesting and unusual. This canyon is very much like Yellowstone Canyon. I heard Starship Troopers was filmed here and might be how I was aware of it when I drove by on the way home from Yellowstone. I visited in 2015. The area was closed off by a simple high chain link fence. I think some gawkers find a way through to walk along the cliff edges and out to the point that juts into canyon. This makes it difficult to take nice photos. I'm sure the fence to to avoid people slipping on the unstable and loose ground. I highly recommend stopping if you happen to be driving by. The area does look like it is from another world.

Its a really neat stop. It's just off the highway. If you are a fan of the 1990's film Starship Troopers, you will recognize it immediately as setting for one of the bug planets. Beautiful geologic formations, a stunning scene. **CAUTION** It had rained before I visited. I foolishly slipped through a cut area of the fence to access the bluff to get closer to the edge of the canyon. The wet dirt turned to mud like slippery butter, and I began to slip toward the edge of the bluff. I was lucky and got onto some tufts of grass for footing, and got the heck back behind the fence. BE CAREFUL if you decide to be as foolish as I was. They fence it off for a reason. Appreciate it from safety.

This unique setting of natural beauty covers approximately 320 Acres. Viewed from a point of Maximum depth, It’s walls and pinnacles show soft and varied shoes comparable to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Investigation has confirmed that and former days the Indians drove great herds of Buffalo into this depression for slaughter. Flint arrowheads and buffalo bones have been found here. A detachment of Captain B.L.E. Bonneville's party visited this site in July 1833. This area has been dedicated to the Natrona County by the federal government.
