Beautiful facility. Great bourbon. Disappointing experience.
Let’s start with what I liked. The facility is beautiful! It is luxurious and classy. And of course Bardstown Bourbon Company provides satisfying, and nuanced bourbon.
That said I was definitely disappointed. First our tour was canceled due to problems with the facility. I don’t fault them for this, and I appreciated the prompt communication.
However when we showed up to visit the gift shop and experience a tasting, I was a bit underwhelmed. I explained our circumstances, and shared my disappointment with the staff there. They offered an explanation about the facility, which I gladly excepted.
However things became disappointing when we started with the tasting. We chose the self-guided tasting.
While the bourbon was wonderful, this tasting did not include the flourishes that I had experienced at other distilleries. Most notably there was no palate cleansers provided. We have visited Barton’s earlier in the weekend, and during their free tasting, (again their free tasting), they provided not only a guided explanation of the bourbon, but also palette cleansers so they could be properly enjoyed. Perhaps I had been spoiled by the other distilleries this weekend, but it surprised me that among all of them, while Bardstown Bourbon Company presents as the classiest of the establishments I visited, they surprisingly had an underwhelming tasting experience.
We paid $15 for this tasting, and it didn’t even provide things that we had gotten for free at other distilleries. I explained this to a staff member and was informed of a self service water station nearby.
I had a naïvely believed they would do something to try to make up for a canceled tour, or at least offer the same level of experience as the other distilleries in the area.
Yet out of all of the distilleries we toured on our Bourbon Trail trip, ultimately this was the most disappointing. Perhaps it’s because I had initially expected so much more out of Bardstown Bourbon Company. While the facility is beautiful, and the bourbon fantastic, they don’t seem as committed to offering the same experience as other distilleries.
I know these seem like small things but the little things matter. If the experience had matched the quality of the facility, or bourbon, it would have easily been our favorite spot.
Ultimately I still recommend folx check it out. I still waked out with a bottle of their excellent Fusion series.
Just don’t expect the kind of experience you might get at Lux Row or...
Read moreToday was supposed be a fun day with bourbon friends on a VIP tour Bardstown Bourbon Company with a drink or two after at the restaurant. The tour was great thanks to Michael and we all were having a great time, some of us even bought a bottle or two. Had I know how we were going to be treated next I wouldn't have spent a dime. Once the tour was over we went to the restaurant and put our names in for a table. It was a 30 minute wait so we decide we would grab a drink from the bar and sit outside and wait. We as a group was standing at the bar waiting to order when the most embarrassing thing in my life happened. The bartender yelled at all of us saying that no of us could order a drink because we were cut off by management. This was very odd since we hadn't had a drink other than the 1/2oz sample we had in the rick house. When we tried to figure out why she was saying such a thing she just said your group was cut off per management. Here the whole time it was a group that had already left that was intoxicated and should have been cut off. However after that was cleared up she allowed one couple to order a drink. Then my wife and me tried to order a drink and she never even acknowledged us. After sitting at the bar for 5 minutes while she polished glasses. I said the hell with it and we went and talked to the rest of our group. They never apologized to us for any of it. One of our members ordered a drink and sat at the bar for at least 20 minutes and they never gave her the drink she ordered even after they acknowledged they were going to make her a drink. I have never in my life been so humiliated in a public setting. To yell what she yelled at group of industry professionals and never even apologized. The management apologized to one or two people but I guess the hell with everyone else. I will never return to Bardstown Bourbon Company or by any of their labels. And that is a shame because I actually like their product and the distillery holds a sentimental place in my heart with my wife. They need to learn how to deal with situations like this and how to...
Read moreWe were initially excited to visit Bardstown Bourbon Company as part of our bourbon vacation. The distillery's reputation and the positive reviews we had read led us to believe we would have a memorable experience. Unfortunately, our visit was tainted by a rude and offensive comment from one of the bartenders. Upon arrival, we explored the gift shop and purchased a few items, including an exclusive bottle that cost over $200. We then proceeded to the outside bar, where we enjoyed a few drinks and engaged in friendly conversation with the bartender. The bartender was knowledgeable about the distillery's offerings and made excellent recommendations. After our drinks, we participated in a guided tour of the distillery. The tour was informative and enjoyable, and we appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the bourbon-making process. However, our positive experience took a sharp turn when we returned to the bar after the tour. As we were chatting with the bartender and another patron about our favorite fast-food restaurants, one of the female bartenders rudely interrupted our conversation. When I casually mentioned that I enjoy Burger King, she responded with a derogatory comment, calling us "rachet." This was a completely uncalled-for and offensive remark. We were shocked and disappointed by her behavior, especially considering the fact that we had spent a significant amount of money at the distillery. It was clear that the bartender was making a judgment about us based on our personal preferences, which is both unprofessional and discriminatory. We immediately felt unwelcome and decided to leave the distillery. The bartender's comment ruined what had been a pleasant experience up until that point. We are deeply disappointed by the way we were treated We believe that it is important for businesses to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all customers, regardless of their personal preferences. The bartender's behavior was unacceptable, and we hope that the distillery will take steps to address this issue and ensure that such incidents do not...
