Living in the area and part of a girl's hiking group we occasionally put Cathedral Ledge on the schedule. Always a pleasure to visit by climbing or walking the road. Either way it is a good work out especially winding the steep trail through the woods and summiting near the rock climbing ledge. This time, being winter and the trail very icy we took to the mile long road which itself had large patching ice and requiring microspikes. The road is closed to traffic in the winter so no cars to worry about. A popular, favorite with tourists and even ourselves, one can see wĥy with a height of 1,159 ft. and sweeping views of North Conway to the right and if you are lucky the majestic Mt. Washington to the left. Sometimes you hear voices on the ledges below as rock climbers love to climb this pretty organ like rock on the left down below. After taking in this wonderful expansive view, wandering over to the right and behind is an even better impressive view of The Moat Mountain Range and White Horse Ledge, up front and center from the large expansive ledges. The best view of this magnificent range from anywhere short of doing the nine mile trek when on it and a great spot for a photo shoot! Anyone visiting the North Conway area should definitely put this on the list by foot or by car, keeping in mind the road is closed in the winter months. Perfect half day trip for all able bodies driving or hiking up. Some rocky uneven ground at the summit so some may need poles for stability but well...
Read moreThis is a truly spectacular place to visit! We Google searched the location after a family member out in Pennsylvania suggested that my husband and I checked it out. After asking me to promise I would send pictures from the top and bottom of the State Park site 🏞️ I was intrigued from the request and spent the day planning the trip up there but nothing prepared me for the actual experience of it all. We arrived around 5pm after a rainy day we weren't sure what we were in for. There was quite a bit of low laying clouds and patches of fog but it was a breezy afternoon and everything was moving out when we go up to the top!! The immense size of the rock is immediately overwhelming but in the most beautiful way. The views from the ledges are so absolutely gorgeous I can't even describe them, you can see for what feels like miles and it is so incredible 😍🥰❤️ I saw some postings that there could be rock climbers and asked to be on the lookout. I think my favorite part about the entire experience is the fact that from parking to the ledge was just a few hundred feet so people from every walk of life can also enjoy such a beautiful natural place!! Young, Old and anywhere in between can all enjoy it and that's what filled...

Brief PSAs:
There is a cash box that we noticed a lot of people passing up. Admission is only $4 per adult and goes towards keeping places like these accessible. Please keep that in mind if you choose to ignore and not pay.
Also, the "no drone" signs aren't there to inconvenience you. If your drone dies, AT BEST you're putting all that metal, lithium, etc into nature. AT WORST it lands on a rock climber below and can be fatal. Saw someone with a drone who was nice and all but still, it's not worth killing animals or people so you can have a wicked cool amature shot of the lake or under cliff
Yes, it's touristy but ultimately it's still nature guys ... If we want to keep it, it needs to...
