I hate to leave negative reviews, but I feel like something NEEDS to change in this facility.
Our pitbull puppy found a small kitten (probably 8-10 weeks old) in our garage this morning. Between the 100+ degree weather, packs of coyotes, and our 3 pitbulls, we thought the kitty would have better chance at the shelter. We also wanted to use this as a learning opportunity for our 6 year old girl who thinks that we should keep everything that's cute and cuddly.
When we arrived we accidentally went through the wrong door, into the adoption area. An extremely rude woman asked if she could help us. I told her that I had a cat for them. She looked at me like I was speaking Greek. I told her I didn't want the cat and asked what I needed to do. She rolled her eyes at me and rudely told me to go to the other door.
When we (again, this is my husband and me with our 6 year old daughter between us) walked into the correct door there was a woman with a fully grown cat being told by a staff member that they had so many cats that they were going to have to start making some "tough decisions" soon, "sorry." This staff member looked at my husband, child and me then the cat and decided not to address us any further. We looked at each other and decided to just take the cat home and maybe try another shelter later. My husband stupidly, but jokingly, said "We'll just leave it out here then." The staff member followed us outside screaming and writing down our license plate number.
In order to avoid an incident involving the sheriff's department, we went back inside and asked what we needed to do. An actual animal control officer assisted us in getting the correct forms and surrendering the sweet kitten. She was professional and kind.
We are responsible pet owners. Our oldest dog, Nova is the dog on the month of May in the Bastrop County Animal Shelter calendar this year. We are not the bad guys. We wanted to show our daughter the good side of animal control and we were embarrassed instead.
Maybe BC & BCAS should look into funding some customer service courses for their staff. Just because we pay you (yes, tax payers pay you) to deal with the animals does NOT mean the rest of us abandon and abuse animals. Please, get off your high horses and have a little respect.
I'd like to point out that almost all the positive reviews are from people who adopted and almost all the negative reviews are from surrenders or those seeking assistance... it's pretty obvious. We're not all bad guys. My feelings matter almost as much as a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI don't know why I didn't review this place earlier. Back in October near my birthday, me and my fiance were in Bastrop visiting his parents. We went out to go look at the animals just because (I know, not a good reason. I should be banned from shelters because I can't help myself). They had such beautiful precious doggos, such a variety compared to Austin's animal shelters. This place is kind of tucked away and near a jail so maybe that's why not many people go out here. Anyways, after walking around for a bit, my fiance noticed a sweet puppy just laying on the floor of her kennel like a good girl. She was a 3 month old German Shepard Lab mix and her name was Shilo. We both couldn't stop looking at her and came back the next day to make the biggest decision of our lives as first year college students. Without telling our parents, we ended up asking for the adoption papers. When I signed the papers it became so real and we we're ecstatic. The day of my birthday we told my parents that we needed to tell them something so we sat them down (they thought I was pregnant). But then I showed them a picture of Shilo and said we adopted her. My parents ended up being okay with it š of course we told them we would take care of everything and we have, as we should. This shelter took such good care of Shilo by vaccinating, deworming, and spaying her. When we came to pick her up we we're jumping out of our skin as it became official. The staff here are such great people and super helpful. I'll never forget this experience and we'll definitely be adopting from here in the future. Now her name is now Sushi š Now she's 8 months old, is 52 lbs of pure love and muscle, and is such a well behaved doggo, everyone LOVES her. Heres a couple of pictures of her with her first and best friend Summer, my fiance's family dog. Thank you Bastrop County Animal Control for picking up...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is actually to their wellness center. The receptionist is not well versed when presented with questions. She takes comments personally and in doing so is very curt and her response is "that's the way we do things here". I took my 3 dogs in for a prescription for heartworm and it was crowded with people and of course dogs. I've had several issues with the receptionist and she's not at all welcoming, she told me to go outside and fill out the paperwork on all 3 dogs. I asked why do we have to go through this everytime we come in, isn't our information in a file? Now I was struggling with all 3 dogs, leashes were wrapped around me, my stray was barking so she said I was "RUDE" and she yelled that over the counter to me. I couldn't even hear myself talk so it probably sounded like I was yelling but it was chaotic. So I guess she had a friend there and this woman decides to tell me to "SHUT UP" she was with her 2 children and a fine example of a parent not to mind her own business when I was not speaking to her and she steps into my conversation. This other woman was all tatted and of course piercings. I told her to mind her own business and she can also "Shut up". Well of course Marshall comes out cause the receptionist pretended to cry. She needs alot of training on customer service! Of course whoever Marshall is he said he'd speak to her. I know that will not happen and they will brush this under the rug. Either way I won't be back to be treated like it's all my fault when their receptionist needs training on how to speak with politeness and how to answer questions with respect. Bastrop has alot of...
