Overall, I used to enjoy The Farmer's Rail, but have mostly given up shopping here anymore.
I actually LOVED when they limited the number of people allowed inside the store at a given time.
Sometimes you'll wait for 20 minutes "in line" just to be passed up by the deli workers over and over, because everyone is packed together, and no one can tell who is next.
It is entirely too crowded inside, and it makes it impossible to throughly view and order products. I have gone in with a long list of items to purchase, only to give up and head to another butcher because it's just too chaotic.
Twice I have ordered maine lobster tail, only to get home and find it was a different variety that I did not order, and do not enjoy. I let it go the first time, but the second time it happened, I contacted the owners with a polite heads up, only be be essentially shrugged off because the lobster they gave me instead was technically "worth more any way".
2 weeks ago I was in, and a lady in front of me was trying to use an EBT card to check out.. The cashier couldn't figure out how to use it, and instead of asking someone how to, she just simply told her she didn't know and that the customer would have to use another card. I was so embarrassed for her.
I wish it'd go back to how it was when they first opened.
It just seemed like they cared a...
Read moreI’m unable to comment about the quality of their meat, as I haven’t been able to purchase any. They really need something to manage the line/crowd. I kept trying to say I was next but they kept helping other customers. Someone finally asked what I wanted, then told me to wait because she needed to do something. Rather than the next clerk helping me, she helped someone else. I eventually gave up and left. Addendum in response to Owner: Thank you for your reply. Please see DeVitis, Krieger, Heinens or any other busy butcher/deli for ideas how to handle busy times. (Ticket system, queue rope, etc.) The fact you had to check the security camera to confirm my story makes it even worse because it means that the worker who asked what I'd like then stopped to work on something else didn't care enough about a customer to follow-up with her coworkers to make sure I was taken care of, or even notice when I left unassisted. It also means that you lost more than one customer on Saturday because I was in a little after 10:30, the person who walked out unassisted between...
Read moreI have been wanting to stop by for a while and finally made it in. The counter was clean and the staff was quite friendly. I picked up some lamb and some beef bacon at a reasonable price. I was not impressed with the current selection of choice ribeye as there was not much marbling and and had almost no cap. the prime, however, was beautiful, I went ahead and invested in a steak that, for the cost, had better have been fed only ancient organic grains and grasses and water from a glacial spring, while a professional harpist lulled it to sleep in a pasture of lilac and moonbeams. As I took my first bite, thinking to myself, "this steak had better taste as rich as I will have to be to ever buy one again," I was punched in the mouth with flavor, juiciness, and tenderness unparalleled... The bovine harpist they must be hiding at their farm is totally worth it, as was the prime ribeye. it needed nothing more than salt and pepper and some hickory smoke. fantastic beef. I will gamble on the choice next time simply on the quality...
