McLaren could be a a high rated hospital if they made customer service a priority. 1. Residents should not ignore family members requesting to transfer to UofM hospital or any other. I had to go behind the Resident to make sure they called to request my family members transfer and the resident/doctor did not do this. The resident/ doctor admitted patient without adhering to the request.2.Provide more than 2 sitters at least 6 sitters for parents to go get meals while sitting in Emergency or leave to prepare themselves for the stay inside the hospital. Don’t deny family members sitters and say you don’t have any to make family members trapped without caring about how they need to take care of themselves to care for their loved one.Making it like a prison where they starve sitting there and can’t replenish themselves to care for a special needs or disabled person is not a healthy practice of McLaren.3.For God sakes “Cleanliness” clean the E.R. Bathrooms it was not cleaned for an entire day into next morning and someone had a hat with urine was sitting in the toilet with piss in it. I had to remove it to go to the bathroom. It sat in the bathroom on a bedside table because the trash wasn’t accommodating to throw it away in the small circle hole.4. The hospital stay going into 3 East floor 3. The practices and accommodation in customer service are just not there. A.)There is no linen bin to change bedding or throw towels into. B.) the bedrooms are small and their is one bedroom that’s big enough for a wheelchair accessible and the bathroom does not accommodate full on care patients and is to small to fit a shower chair in it. They do not accommodate people who are skilled care who need to use Hoyer lifts or handicapped accessible to accommodate disabled people. C.) There is no option to order your breakfast lunch or dinner menu at the scheduled time a disabled person eats let alone when a normal person would like to eat. A staff gives you two options of breakfast, lunch or dinner. You’re at the mercy of cafeteria to bring your meal and they should have enough staff to bring trays to guests. What a horrible way to treat guests with their stay. There should be a practice that guests order when they want food and cafeteria brings it up within 45 minutes. Guests should get a menu not staff read it off to them! This is not accommodating to patients! Patients should get dozen of choices and options when they want to eat.The option to eat or order all day. Is a better option to please patients.D.) Cleaning staff should be curtiuos and ask guests if they need more toilet paper or if they can mop and clean in areas of spilled fluid and should clean bathrooms or anything else needed for cleanliness. The hospital pays staff to clean and staff should not be doing less than taking out patients trash that’s poor service to not offer to clean the room your staying in.daily E.) McLaren should accommodate patients with a replenishment room to get their own drinks take the burden of staff. F.) McLaren should teach male staff to knock on doors and wait for patients or family members to acknowledge them to come into the room. Parents are in pajamas or just waking up or showering. It’s not appropriate practice at all! G.) R.N’s need to more attentive to the disabled or a parent or caregiver who provides care. Instead of trying to give a med to a patient they don’t know, allow caregivers to administer it so it doesn’t spill out the mouth of patient and they don’t get all the med. Being considerate to the needs of patients with disabilities would should be discussed at admission and adhere to.H.)The cafeteria has no healthy options and barely stock items to buy. The choice of food is limited. What a horrible way to treat your staff and patients. A food truck resides outside on premises for patients or staff to walk out in the winter cold! Get an inside vendor and put healthier options for everyone. Make this a priority in customer service. The food truck option for customers is horrible...
Read moreWe were greeted by a lady who didn’t even look up from her computer, and I would not even call it a greeting “are you here to be seen?” Then she was not even listening to the patient asking where the restroom was, just kept screaming at her to “go have a seat over there”. The lady behind us told her where it was. The whole time, zero eye contact. We witnessed the same with several people who “checked in” after we did. We then waited 30 minutes to be triaged in which a blood pressure was taken and asked if allergic to any medications, and then directed back to the lobby waiting room where we waited for another hour while someone puked all over the floor(and it was not cleaned up in the hour that we sat there), and someone else bled all over a chair( also not cleaned up for the hour we sat there) desk was notified multiple times of the clean up needed. We were finally taken to a room and the staff person left without even making sure the patient was on the bed safely(bed was high). Came back a minute later with a cervical collar……why you gonna use a cervical collar now after you left the patient for an HOUR after being triaged without it. Collar was obviously refused, no need for it. The Staff person left never to be seen again. The Doctor came in a couple minutes later and checked the patient’s neck(so would have literally only had cervical collar on for like 3 minutes ?????). The Doctor left, then all of a sudden the door opens and a cart gets pushed in the room. The Staff person said “judging by your face this must be the right room, I wasn’t sure what room they said”. That staff person left, doctor came back in, opened sterile packages for suturing with gloves that were taken out of his back pocket. Continued touching the cart drawers and stuff in the drawers with the same gloves and then proceeded to suture with the same gloves. He stated okay let’s get you out of here. Another lady then came in stating she was from admissions????? Okay not being admitted being discharged….apparently it was the basic information that they should have collected when we were checked in. While this lady was gettting information another lady knocked and came in and said she’d be right back with a wheelchair. I said she can walk she doesn’t need a wheel chair “NO, she cannot” was said rather curtly. We then found out this lady intended on taking patient for a CAT scan…….um nothing was said about a CAT scan and for what? We thought patient was being discharged. Staff left in a huff, doctor came back in and said I ordered the CAT scan, we said for what? CAT scan was refused it was not needed patient was not on blood thinners and never hit her head. Everyone left the room then we proceeded to sit there for another hour waiting for discharge papers when patient finally walked out of room and asked for them. Another person said not sure where your nurse is but sign this and you can leave(the papers were sitting on the desk). Other reviews have stated they were forgotten about….well this explains why people were walking out unsure of what they were supposed to be doing and whether they had been discharged or not.
With all this said, the Doctor was very friendly and chatted easily with patient but lacked in communicating about the care that was being received or was being ordered. The admission lady was also rather friendly.
As far as other reviews on here….i noticed almost ALL negative reviews were met with please contact …… because we’d like to know more. Well there is enough information in the reviews to make changes and it seems that the same issues have been there for years(according to the reviews) and with our visit, seems still nothing has changed. I know they are receiving more feedback because I am sure that people are also filling out the surveys that are being mailed. So I’m thinking they really need to reread the reviews and comments in the surveys they send and the reviews on various sites like this. I can honestly see why the locals branded the name for...
Read moreAbsolute worst experience I have ever had in my life! Being a medical assistant myself for over 8 years working in family care, specialty care and urgent care. I was distrusted with the care that was provided to myself. I came in unable to stand because I hurt my back. My husband had to lift me because I was unable to bear weight without my back having very intense shape pain that made me want to blackout. I had been getting worse and it was day 6. I sat in the most uncomfortable hard chair that had wheels. I wouldn't say it was even a wheelchair because it is far from that. A nurse took me back to do my vitals. Then put me back in the waiting room. I was then taken for X-rays of my low back. I couldn't move so I told the lady doing the X-rays I would need someone to help lift me. The lifting was not supportive at all and hurt my back more. After I couldn't sit up from the table and was screaming in pain. When I was sat forward it was not gentle and my spine felt like it was breaking the pain was so bad. I was then wheeled back to the waiting room. I sat there in tears because my back felt so much worse. I could not get comfortable. I had asked if I could have a pillow or something to place under my buttocks and was handed a blanket but no help to place it and the receptionist wouldn't even get a nurse to help. I couldn't even lean forward without having excruciating pain. Finally the ER doctor called me back and I was wheeled back. He spent a whole 2 minutes with me like I was a waste of his time. Then he wanted to give me a narcotic which had codeine. I had a sever allergy to it and it causes anaphylactic reaction. He didn't even review my allergies or any chart information. I told him I couldn't have anything that was going to make me sleep or doped up because I have a special needs toddler I have to care for by myself. I was then told I will have to suffer it out and he pushed me back to the waiting room where I sat for 1.5 hours with no update on my discharge plan. I called my husband crying telling him to pull up and get me. I then had a nurse take me back to give me my d/c papers and 3 shots which I already said I couldn't have and didn't want. I was there to make sure I didn't have a herniated dics or worse sent by my family physician. I will never recommend this hospital ER to anyone or return there! Very disgusted with my care. Oh my back that I was told to "suffer out at home" Its not okay. I am in treatment for it as I have limited movement and walking still. MRI is scheduled. Maybe you should review your ER physician that acted like I was a bother and seeking a high. Then teach your staff how to lift properly when someone has a...
