I went here back in the early 1990s when it was known as “Faulkner State Community College”, mainly to save money. In all honesty, I didn’t have too good of an experience and regarded Faulkner as just a glorified high school but what made things worse was when I transferred to the University of South Alabama I lost a lot of credits, putting me back to being a freshman and delaying my graduating for almost a year!
Well folks, I’m here to tell you in the 30 years since that happened absolutely nothing has changed about that place except the name. My daughter went to Coastal and is now finishing her nursing degree at South Alabama. 30 years is a long time for things to change…I figured Coastal would have gotten with the times and when you go to transfer EVERYTHING should transfer, especially in state. Like my situation back then she lost about a year’s worth of credits delaying her graduating by a year.
That’s OK because there will not be a third time! My youngest daughter was thinking about going to Coastal but after what we experienced 30 years apart from one another, the brakes were slammed on that! She is now working on her degree at South Alabama where she doesn’t have to worry about losing credits. I should have heeded my mother’s advice when she told me a long time ago “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me” and I have been kicking myself since. Aside from that, I was not surprised to learn other people had gone here, transferred to other colleges in state only to lose credits which calls in the question is Coastal really a community college or just a place where money gets laundered!?
My advice to anyone, if you go to Coastal do so at your own risk! Aside from that, when my daughter went to have her credits transferred Coastal seemed like it was nothing but organized chaos leaving her highly frustrated because nobody over there in administration seemed to know what was going on. When you finally did talk to someone, they constantly dragged their feet And did not take into consideration, the time was taking and things needed to be done right away. That certainly isn’t the case at the University of South Alabama where when you call there you get an answer right away and not give a runaround Between me, and my oldest daughter, we have been successful in turning upwards of 15 people away from Coastal after they learned of our experience and will continue to share our story with future prospective students.
Bottom line: Unless you have time to waste and money to burn avoid Coastal Alabama Community College like the plague or you’ll...
Read moreI had Wendy Dees for PreCal online. The WORST experience I’ve ever had with a teacher and course. She did not respond to emails, the whole online course was terribly dis-organized, we never knew what was going to be on the exams and it just felt like one big joke. The exams were harder than anything I’ve ever taken. (coming from a full time PreMed student at Auburn University on the Dean’s List continually)I thought I was the only one struggling so I reached out to my classmates online and literally EVERYONE was failing her exams, and majority of these people had completed their homework, gone to tutoring and emailed her just like I did. We all were struggling so bad and Wendy Dees did NOT care one bit. I still have PTSD from this experience. Seriously, my online class started with around 23 people and there were only 9 people left when I dropped the course. TERRIBLE!!!! Why would anyone want to take a course or classes through this Teacher/community college when they truly do not care if you pass or fail the course? I met with her and the Dean to try to find a resolution to this, and there was none. Ms. Dees covered every reason I presented with a sorry excuse. The Dean, who is supposed to act as a NEUTRAL person to resolve the issue, completely and utterly 100% took Wendy Dees side. The WHOLE time. Incredibly unprofessional. I emailed Wendy Dees to let her know that I was most likely going to drop the class to see if she had any last pieces of advice and never heard back from her. The whole experience was completely awful, I can’t stress it enough. DO NO TAKE WENDY DEES AND DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES AT COASTAL ALABAMA IN MONROEVILLE! You will thank me later. They are a complete joke! They make things WAY more complicated and unfair than it needs to be. It’s a community college. Not Harvard. I’ve spoken to several Professors, students and my Advisor and they all agreed that this was a terrible experience and sounded...
Read moreI've been going to Faulkner/Coastal Alabama since 2011 on and off when time and life permit it. I know that the Fairhope campus is horrible. The admins behind the desk don't really want to help. I transferred schools based off the fact that Coastal Fairhope hires unprofessional people. I'm sure that if I had recorded some of the incidents I've had up there someone would lose their job. Even though it's a community college, there should be some sort of standard of professionalism enforced. If someone comes in asking for help, why would you turn them away or tell them to seek help elsewhere. Isn't that what you're getting paid to do? The school has gone downhill since the change. I'd take my time and money and go elsewhere. You don't have put up with blatant disrespect in front of you peers for simply trying to better yourself. Somthing isn't right when students prefer to drive to Bay Minette from Fairhope instead of just asking for help at the campus in town. Personally, if I was so unhappy and disgruntled with my job that I felt like I had take it out on other people, I would just...
