Do not to here. They charge $22/person to get in, which would be ok if you are planning to eat a lot while in and if the quality is good.
But the quality is terrible. My wife and I have been u-picking cherries for the last 10 years and are used to u-picking cherries. The size of cherry is small, and the taste is all tart and not sweet at all. And that's the larger, redder cherries. The others are worse.
We went in for about 10 min and realized after trying some cherries from 15-20 trees that there was nothing worth buying and not even anything worth eating. Quality on anything at Albertsons is significantly better.
I spoke with them on the way out and let them know our experience. I asked if we could have a partial refund because we maybe ate $3 each worth of cherries while tasting and wouldn't be buying any. We spoke with the owner and he refused to consider giving us any type of partial refund. We told him we drove over an hour to get here.
Also, before we entered, we asked them how the cherries were. They said this was a great time bc the season is optimal ripe right now due to the rain etc. So we were expecting decent cherries before paying. However, on our way out when we talked to the owner, he said that they are not letting them get ripe because a certain type of bug would destroy all the cherries. So nothing is ever tree ripe here and they know it.
They are super strict about letting anyone even use the bathroom located on the property without paying. My guess is that it's possible they don't want people going in and seeing the quality of the orchard and then wanting to leave.
I told the owner they should lower the entrance fee and charge more per lb. He mentioned that that would put them out of business possibly due to the high cost to operate. We had a civil conversion but he had no intention of making sure the customer was happy.
My concern with this business is the following:
They do not have ripe cherries for sale. Before entering, they say that the cherries are great. They charge up front $22 per person without letting anyone see the orchard or taste anything. They make no accomodations to customers and have no intension of doing so.
I'd be ok with this business if they only charged per lb. But as the owner said, they'd go bankrupt because ppl would try and not buy. Or I'd be ok if they let ppl try before entering. Or if they were accommodative. But since they are none of the above, I strongly recommend staying away from this family farm (which is terrible bc I like family farms and like...
Read moreOne of the last cherry U-Picks in Cherry Valley, and very happy it is continuing to thrive. We went a week ago and met Christian, who is incredibly friendly and willing to explain the whole process and patiently showed us the varieties of cherries they have growing in their orchard (over 50 kinds!!). You can tell he's proud of continuing to take care of the family orchard, especially from how knowledgeable he is and the guidance he provided. While there is an entrance fee, these are organically grown, no pesticides, you'll allowed to pick and eat to try on each tree to see if you like it, and there are so many varieties here to pick from. We are absolutely coming back - Christian, you have made our family into fans and as close as an annual subscriber as a U-Pick farm can be by coming back when we can until the season is over and coming back the...
Read moreWe paid $23. each. My sister has been wanting to go cherry picking for a long time. We picked Guldseth, and we drove past it while looking for it.They have limited parking. We spent a little less than 2 hrs sampling the cherries. Yeah, some are tart some or NOT. It's an orchard. I believe they have around 50+ trees of different varieties. I got a little tired of picking cherries. I found a bench close to the house. I'm not sure if someone inside the house was playing the piano or if it was a recording. I just know it was relaxing lying on it listening to the music. The young man who was working there was courteous and helpful with questions you might have. It costs $3. Per lb. For the cherries you pick. We came home with 9ish lbs. Yeah cheaper to get them at the store. But what...
