I recently visited Gravity Spa in Beavercreek, Ohio, for a massage and float therapy session. This spa is known for its float deprivation tanks, relaxing environment, and variety of therapeutic massage options — everything from deep tissue and Swedish to sports massage. I had seen plenty of positive reviews online and was excited to experience both the massage and float tank for myself. When I booked online, I was under the impression that my float session would come first, followed by the massage. However, when I arrived, I was told it would be in reverse order — massage first, float second. Not ideal, but I went along with it. My massage therapist, Chelsia, had listed sports massage as one of her specialties, which was why I chose her specifically. I have a few muscle injuries, so I appreciated someone familiar with deeper pressure and targeted work. She was friendly, professional, and easy to be around — the kind of person who makes you feel instantly comfortable in a vulnerable setting like a massage room. Her massage technique was impressive. She started off with slightly more pressure than I could handle, but when I mentioned it, she immediately adjusted without hesitation. The highlight of the massage was when she did this unique shoulder release technique that felt incredible — she “sandwiched” each shoulder between her hands and worked from the base of my neck outward. It was easily one of the best moves I’ve experienced during any massage. Chelsia also made thoughtful touches that elevated the experience: The massage bed was heated, which made it cozy and comfortable. She placed a heating pad on my back while working on other areas. When I flipped to my back, she added a heated eye mask, which was a nice bonus. The lighting, music, and temperature in the room were all perfect for relaxation. After the massage, I moved on to the float tank experience. I was assigned the room farthest from the front door. The staff gave clear instructions, and everything was self-explanatory. You shower before and after your float, and the room comes stocked with all the essentials: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, makeup remover, ear wash, and earplugs. There’s even a neck float if you want extra support. I appreciated that they also provided a robe, towel, and a bag for my clothes so I could easily transition from the massage to the float without having to redress in between. As for the float tank itself, the water temperature was perfect and weightless floating really helped alleviate the pressure on my hip — I could feel noticeable relief. However, there was one major downside: the smell of mildew inside the tank. It was strong enough that I had to open the lid twice just to breathe fresh air. Unfortunately, that made the water get chilly each time. It definitely affected the experience, and that’s the main reason I can’t give a higher rating. When the session ends, gentle music plays inside the tank to signal it’s time to get out and shower. You’re given about 15 minutes post-float to shower and finish up, which is enough time but I wish there had been a clock in the room to help keep track — especially since washing and conditioning your hair after saltwater takes longer than a quick rinse. Their towels were large, absorbent, and high-quality, which made it easy to dry off quickly. The facility overall was clean and organized, and the front desk staff were polite. The building itself is tucked into a quiet residential area, which gives it a hidden, almost exclusive feel — though it does look a little out of place at first glance. The parking lot is large with plenty of spaces, but if you’re visiting after dark, just note that lighting in the lot is limited, so park closer to the entrance if possible. Inside the float tank, there’s a soft light bar that can be adjusted for color or turned off completely if you prefer total darkness — a great customizable feature depending on whether you’re there for meditation, muscle recovery, or sensory deprivation.

I had been wanting to check this out, as was curious about buoyancy experience. They push the 90 minute duration for the full effect. I went with the 60 minute experience, that seemed right for my situation. I got a briefing on how it works, and on to the experience. You get time to shower before entering the tank as the room has its own shower. Then into the tank. My whole body floats just about half in the water. I can feel very light pressure on my back and lower sides of my arms as if in a very soft bed, but not really zero gravity. Floating somewhat submerged in a pool would be more like zero gravity, but likely not as relaxing. Floating on your front side is possible, on your side you tend to quickly flip to your back with no effort. About 50 minutes was enough for me, and exited the tank. I found it interesting, but not mind blowing. I had added a star for one of the best chocolate chip cookies ever.

I have been coming to Gravity for a few years consistently every month. I usually buy the package with three 90 minute massages in which I thought was awesome. Kim was awesome and no longer is with the company as I found out today. She set the tone as for how your experience should be like. I also had the pleasure of experiencing great service at another company for several months as Gravity didn’t offer the services that was needed at that time. Since I have returned back to Gravity my experiences haven’t been so pleasurable. I have had several different ladies and only one of them has kind of come close to the experience that I have had previously. Bre was the worse! There was no relaxing environment at all from the music to the methods that she used. No consist flow in which I had experienced with previous ladies. She didn’t asked if I wanted the warmer on nor once getting started she didn’t ask how was the pressure or the temperature etc. As I stated I have been getting massages for a while now and it has been the exact same routine. Bre had me start face down and I have always started face up first with every massage I have had previously. This experience was so horrible I didn’t want to return however I had one more session left and that was today with Jenna. The experience with Jenna was the exact same the only difference was that the music was properly working and she didn’t asked ask about the temperature until about an hour in. She also had me start face down and didn’t ask about the warmer nor the pressure once getting started. She also didn’t inform me when she was putting or removing the roll under my ankles or knees. The pressure wasn’t consistent. The lighting was too bright. There wasn’t a flow and it seemed as if she was forgetting how it goes. I know exactly how the flow goes like where the starting point and what parts are next etc. At this point I feel like I’m wasting money and time. As I checked out today I asked the receptionist if she could look to see who I had previously booked with as I’m really not trying to go elsewhere and maybe find the lady that was close to the experience I had been getting before. She was only able to see the last few sessions in which I knew none of those ladies were the one. I asked her what kind of massage had I booked for and she stated that they didn’t do specific booking anymore and that it’s a conversation with the therapist when you come. Now again never knowing they switched the process because they have always asked any specific areas to be worked out or avoided. I have always gotten a full body relaxation massage so I’m under the impression that is what I booked but it definitely hasn’t been the last few. Up until these past few sessions I actually looked forward to having my me time at Gravity. I loved the atmosphere when you walk in. The schedule is convenient and a wide variety of times and days. I think I’d rather deal with getting satisfactory service and having a limited time schedule than a flexible time schedule and the services are unsatisfactory. I will not be returning, I refuse to continue to spend money trying to capture the experience that I have had previously when the very basic services should be a given. Consistency across the board with routine, meaning everyone should at least be having and asking the same questions. Would you like the warmer on? What are your expectations for todays visit ( deep tissue, relaxation, specific areas etc)? Are you okay with me using warm towels? How is the pressure? How is the temperature? How are you feeling so far? Have I met your needs today? Offer or leave a warm towel for wipe off. All of these questions has been a part of...

I left 2 stars only because other than the person who brushed off what I said and the incompetent front desk help - the owner seemed nice ... Read til end.

I was given a gift certificate for massage & float - I scheduled months in advance for an evening massage & float after. I was almost turned away for being 13 weeks pregnant and not having a DRs note. None of that was in any of the prep emails or their website. They had one massage therapist left at 5:30 that was comfortable doing the massage. This kinda added to the stress, made me feel uncomfortable like I was getting a favor ... And I'll be honest - the massage was kinda repetitive in motions, some places got a 2 second lotion rub. Other spots felt overworked. I love getting massages but it wasn't anything to phone a friend about ... Maybe they seemed tired by 5:30? This was my first time here.

I was very excited to try the float! I had been sleep deprived postpartum for 7 months and was told the experience was relaxing and you could fall asleep. It wasn't. The tanks smelled strongly of mildew and had visible mildew on the roof of the tank. I took a photo. I had a little night light on in the tank and couldn't relax and stop staring at the mildew. The tank bottom felt sandy or gritty. I lasted about 15m, even tho I wanted out after 5.

Upon leaving, they noticed my float time wasn't up. I told them as politely as possible the tank had mildew/ smelled strongly of mildew so I ended the session early considering in pregnant. The smell was making me feel gaggy.. the response I got was "Really?! We just cleaned that one!" I'd certainly hope they clean all of them before someone goes in, Everytime. Also, I got photo of mildew because I had a feeling that might be the response I got. They just brushed it off really. Didn't offer a different experience, a certificate for the value of float I may have come back ... But probably not.

THEN, they asked me if I'd like to leave a tip ... Kinda put me on the spot since I had a gift cert and wasn't expecting to pull my wallet out AND honestly wasn't a tip worthy experience .. but again felt like they did me a favor because I was pregnant soooo I tipped, It took 30m to run my card for the tip .... Their system was messing up. Coming in AND leaving was stressful and held up my babysitter for additional cost.

I left ready to be home, I also felt so bad about going home to my husband who booked this for me because I knew he wanted me to have a wonderful time and spent quite a bit of money! This was something I had asked him to do for me for a while. I'm writing this review months later in looking for another, but better experience and coming across their page in the search I felt compelled to leave a...
