Our family recently had the pleasure of booking a trip with Octane Rentals and it has been, by far, the highlight of our Summer! We were unsure of what to expect but we relied on a recommendation from good friends that it would be worthwhile, and it certainly did not disappoint. Upon booking we were given a solid overview of all that the excursion would entail which allowed us to be prepared accordingly come trip day. We were given directions to the rendezvous which is just a few miles west of Bend and had no issues finding the location the next morning. The Octane crew was there waiting for us and got us outfitted with our helmets and goggles(it can be a bit dusty if it hasn't rained in a while). We were then given a comprehensive overview of the 100 HP Rzr that we would be taking out and were given an opportunity to test drive before hitting the trail. This machine was clean and obviously well maintained. Matt from Octane then went over the route that we would be taking which was loaded into an easy to read Tablet mounted to the ceiling. Octane does not offer guided trips but the GPS on the tablet worked so well that we had no issues staying on track. The routes were marked on the GPS in a way that lets you tour on the easier trails if you like or go onto more advanced terrain. At the end of the day we were happy it was just our family as it made for more of an adventure and we felt like true explorers and not tourists on a 3 hour tour.
As soon as we hit the first straight stretch I accelerated and we instantly all had smiles on our faces. These machines have unbelievable suspensions which allow you to maintain speed while absorbing all the bumps that these old logging roads threw at us. We stayed on the track that was programmed into the GPS and were soon atop one of the many volcanic buttes surrounding the Cascade Mountains. After taking in the views we loaded back up and headed to over to Triangle Butte for lunch and more breathtaking photo ops. My wife drove this leg of the trip and was getting after it like an old pro, I am pretty sure she had more fun driving than me and I had an absolute blast. We did some more exploring after lunch and finally made our way back to the rendezvous to conclude the trip. The Octane Crew was there waiting once again for a quick turnaround.
I was born and raised in Bend and have seen much that the area has to offer. Taking my family out on this trip allowed for us to explore places that even I haven't seen before. I would highly recommend this trip to anybody visiting Central Oregon as well as all of the people living in the area. Thanks Octane for a memorable day and we look forward bringing more people next time and renting the...
Read moreWe were looking for outdoor activities to do with my parents who are a little older. We settled on a snowmobile tour since none of us had ever done it before. Arriving at the facility a little earlier than expected, we were greeted very warmly. Dan (our guide) spent a good amount of time making sure we were all comfortable in our helmets and goggles and then thoroughly went through the operation of the snowmobiles and safety instructions. Thanks to his instruction, we all felt really comfortable once we actually started driving. The machines themselves were brand new and really nice. Tons of features that I don't think I'd even need if I owned one. Once on the tour, Dan did a fantastic job of taking us around the Newberry crate, taking time to stop and tell us about different features, allow us to take pics and really enjoy the view. We were lucky enough. to get the full tour in 2 hours, spending a little bit of time at each individual spot. While we did have quite a disparity in speed comfort amongst our group (some of us were flooring it and others liked a mellow cruising speed), Dan did an amazing job making sure we all were comfortable and not leaving anyone behind too far. Overall, the experience ended up being the highlight of the week and something I can honestly recommend for anyone even remotely interested in it. It's pretty rare if ever that I write reviews online but this tour was such a blast and something we haven't stopped talking about. I can honestly say that this is one of the seemingly few times that a tour or outing like this has been worth every last cent we paid for it. 10/10 would LOVE to do it...
Read moreThis was hands down, the BEST snowmobiling experience we have EVER had. We've done tours in Aspen, Vail, & Breckinridge and NOTHING compares to this tour. Our guide Clay was by far the best guide we've ever had. Aside from just being a really cool dude, he is SO knowledgeable in the area and history. He gave us tons of facts and you could just tell he truly LOVES what he does. He went above and beyond to make our time unique and full of fun. We were suppose to start at 12pm, but another party that was joining us, was having trouble getting up the mountain in the snow. Instead of just saying "too bad, you should have arrived on time", he patiently waited for them and chatted with us about the area and our visit to Bend. Once the other party arrived, we took off and he still made sure we got our full 2 hours ( honestly, I think he gave us more than 2 hours.) It was seriously our favorite part of our trip and Clay was a huge reason why! We will definitely be back! If you're between this tour and others in Bend, do yourself a favor and choose the Obsidian Flow Snowmobile Tours with Octane Adventures and if you have a choice, ask to ride with Clay. Our only regret? Not booking a 4 Hour tour with them!
P.S. If it's snowing, give yourself extra, EXTRA time to get there. It's a beautiful drive, but you'll need to drive super slow if it's snowing, especially once you get off...
