I needed to purchase a new power recliner. To buy local, we first went to Manchester, as it's 9 miles from home. At that Old Brick we were told they did not have much in their inventory, so we should go to Rutland or Bennington. Again, to buy local, we went to Bennington which is closer. I found one power recliner, and wished to buy it. When I discovered that it was the only one available, I asked if there was a discount as it was the floor model. My request was refused. I was told that their pricing is "aggressive "and my take-away on that was they have almost no competition. To have it delivered, was less stellar . For $49.95 , the chair would be delivered into the house. We live about 8 miles from the Bennington Old Brick. We opted for the curbside version, which means that they will deliver, but put it in your garage or on your porch. No charge. Go figure. I understand about covid, but they are allowing their delivery personnel to enter the house if Old Brick gets $49.95? I was planning to purchase other pieces, but perhaps it just might make sense to just go to Albany, expect to pay shipping costs, throw buying local out the window. As far as Old Brick is concerned, true customer service is a dinosaur and profit is their main concern. I used to be in the retail furniture industry, and you had some leeway to create a welcoming purchasing experience, perhaps a savings here, offer a discount there, and you got customers who came back to you because of the relationship that you had built with them I am not faulting the salesperson, she must have been just " following orders " I told her, ' She was no fun." There was no give and take. It...
Read moreI worked with Brooke at the Bennington store. She was the perfect amount of leave you alone to look, but there to answer questions without having to go get her, or send a search party! Impressive quality for sure! Her knowledge of the different lines and manufacturers was EXACTLY what I was looking for in a salesperson. She asked a few questions about who lives in our house and our lifestyle and preferences as to were we looking for cushy or firm furniture, did we want high end, low end, or somewhere in between. Respectfully inquired or perhaps I volunteered, what price range we wanted to be in. Then gave me honest answers as to the pieces we liked and their potential fit for our family. Would it last? Would it hold up? How should we clean it? What was the smartest/most economical way to purchase... she successfully helped us navigate the best pieces for our desires, needs, and budget. She NEVER tried to upsell us, or make us go over budget, rather helped us spend wisely within our budget so we could get the most bang for our buck! She was also VERY NON-JUDGMENTAL when it came to understanding that not everyone can afford high end. She stuck with us from our first encounter through the sale... probably 3-4 different visits over the course of 3 months. We weren't rushed, pressured, nor did I ever feel like I was being a nuisance to her! Great lady! Great store! Great experience! Probably our 5th or 6th purchase from these guys... replaced the entire living room......
Read moreThis is a really nice showroom for affordable furniture with staff that is knowledgeable but won't stalk you. That alone should make it worth your visit if you're looking for furniture, because most other places can't even clear that low bar.
We found a ton of possible kitchen tables, a few credenzas, and even a few desks that we liked. Every time we tried to guess a price, the actual price was lower than what we expected based on other furniture stops we made.
The signs on the furniture we looked at were very detailed and usually provided a picture, description of construction, and measurements. It was great compared to other places signage (or lack thereof).
I would not hesitate to buy pieces from Old Brick and I wish we lived closer. We actually drove to their Albany store from Bennington, VT on the way down to our home because we liked their stuff so much and wanted to check out the "big" store. We were not disappointed.
We may go back up to snag a table in the future and that's a 4hr drive! We have a lot of furniture stores down here but I would honestly trade them all for...
