I've been coming to Stony Lake for quite a few years now and always look forward to breakfasts at the cafe. Stony Lake Store and Cafe is a "one stop shop" for all the basics you need to enjoy your day (or weeks) around the area.
Hit the Cafe for amazing (and huge) breakfast meals. Everything is homecooked and many breads and other items are locally sourced. See my photos for a few examples - all highly recommended. The cafe also serves lunch, pizza, and most items are available for takeout. During the week your server may also be cooking your meals so, be patient and use the free wi-fi while you wait. Or, check-out the various items for sale up front or in the back room.
The store has most basics needed to keep you going. Beer, wine, liquor, beverages, basic food and pantry items are plentiful in the small space along with other basic necessities such as bug spray and suntan lotion, along with simple hardware and household supplies.
You can order hand-scooped local ice cream out front and grab bags of ice to chill down your cooler full of goodies. If you are feeling adventurous you can even rent tubes at the store and drop them in Stony Lake for a float or a lazy drift down the inlet to Lake Michigan.
Be sure to check out the historical pictures of Stony Lake in the store. Staff here are friendly and knowledgable of the area. Locals also tend to congregate and stop by here on most days, so stop by and make...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I visited the area from Chicago, and we decided to take a chance on the pizza. We were pleasantly surprised! We went with the thin crust, and it was cracker thin, similar to Pat's back home. The sauce was sweeter than we're used to, but it was also bright and tangy and delicious! I had just a cheese pizza and thought it was perfect, and my boyfriend got sausage, bacon, and onion on his, which he then added hot honey to. We both highly recommend giving the pizzas here a try whenever you are nearby and a craving hits! Also, we recommend getting ice cream here. Both the scoops and soft serve creations are delicious. We'd love to see them expand their offerings at the walk-up window to include coffee and some baked items for a grab and go breakfast, which is the only thing that's missing here. We're already looking forward to coming back on our...
Read moreEvery time I've tried eating at the cafe it's always a problem. One time a few years ago we went in when the music festival was going on we were say right away and got drinks pretty fast but then nothing. A table came in after us filled with kids from the festival and they were served food before me and my wife even ordered. We left after we saw them getting served food. I left five bucks on the table for two glasses of orange juice and told myself id never come back. Then i decided to give them another shot this weekend. Went in and no tables were available. Tried to see if i could order food to go but the one lone worker seemed too overwhelmed. Will never try the cafe again and the store itself has gone way down hill. Had to wait to pay for coffee creamer because only one person was cooking, serving, and...
