Having spent a couple of months getting to know the grounds a few years ago I have to say, the land itself is so inspiring with it's beautiful desert weather and the mellowing omnipresence of God. The pecan goodies are just a delicious benefit to this, one of the few monasteries I've found in North America, with such great business potential! So much so, that the Catholic Church decided to desanctify it years ago! SMH, but the land will always be Holy since there's a small but stylish adobe chapel and a quiet graveyard for the founders, watching over the spiritual retreat. The adoption of 'mobile-homes' as retreat houses and extra rooms, must have been someone's brilliant THREE STAR idea a long time ago, that just kinda continued....because there are LOTS!....but at least they're clean! One or two more brick-and-mortar buidings to replace some of the "temporary" ones, would be ideal, but otherwise the property is amazing. The people working there at the time were diligent and honorable, each one full of heartwarming stories from the monastery's history. Hopefully others will benefit from the calming powers of this place, at least on retreats, for...
Read moreMust be lovely when open. We strolled the pond. Spoke with a volunteer dusting out the retreat lodgings, from Tucson. Mary was informative and very nice. We were walking to see the church from the outside when approached by two masked nasty women. They were, as we were informed, "STAFF" and told us to leave. We did not know it was closed; the gate was OPEN and the SANDWICH BOARD said to REGISTER at the BOOKSTORE. Which was closed, so we strolled! As we LEFT we saw a tiny blue paper sign tacked on one half of the gate about being closed! TRY TAKING DOWN THE DIRECTIONS BOARD. And we, even as Catholics, do NOT TAKE it well from RUDE HENS masquerading as Catholics. Very simple to be welcoming and explaining, you nasty ladies 😡 We loved donating and visiting the Benedictine Nuns at St. Gertrude's in Idaho for the years we lived nearby. We looked forward to good vibes here, but there are NO actual Catholic nuns or visiting priests here. More like the lay staff in the Pecos, New Mexico Benedictine Monastery; although I never met any impolite staff there the two years I...
Read moreI often wondered about this place since I moved to Tombstone Arizona back in 2019. Yesterday after doing a painting job in Benson and on the way back to Tombstone I saw a little sign out in front of this monastery "lunch open" I drove about a mile contemplating it. I'm at a sad place in my life where unfortunate events happened . A dear friend passed away the editor of my upcoming film. So I decided to go in and I'm glad I did this was the last time that they were going to have an open lunch to the public because they're getting so busy and the lunch was amazing and their pumpkin cheesecake pie was amazing. I shared with the waitress about my current state and loss and she said "you're more than welcome to travel the grounds and the church is also open". There were peacocks all over the grounds as I made my way down the many paths there which just added to the gracefulness of this place, very Serene very peaceful very quiet. I ended up in the church praying for my departed friend. My spirit very very much so needed this. Thank you Trinity retreat, I will definitely...
