Dishonest advertising. A lot of flash sales to get you in the store. Very low quality meats, especially the flash frozen stuff and bundles. They're very unwelcoming of constructive criticism and delete any negative comments on their page unless it's in their favor, making it look like all comments are only positive. Look closely, they're not.
I've had pork chops and steaks you can't even chew. Wings with broken bones and feathers. Pork riblets flash frozen in a 10lb clump with spiny, sharp bones. 10lns of bacon in a clump. 10lb burger tubes used to be a great deal to get you in the store but recently they've raised the price as high as $10 MORE then lowered it $4 to call it a "sale". Still a good price but always pre-frozen and often store thawed which is misleading (and unhealthy) to the consumer who freezes it a second time.
Very inconsistent with quality and pricing. Their marketing strategy is not unique at all. Did you ever shop at a hobby store where all items are always on sale for 40% off but still more money than some other stores? Same strategy. Also, you can't comment honestly on their Facebook page unless it's positive. They consistently remove negative comments quickly to give the appearance that all comments are positive. Any constructive criticism gathers a lot of agreeable comments but gets deleted in short order. Huge red flag.
Yes, I shop there. Some stuff is good and well worth the bargain pricing but remember as always, you get what you pay for. Most meats are 12-18% solution added. Meaning theyre tumbled in preservatives, water or other "enhancements". Often no real harm in a cheaper grade of meat but in reality you're getting 12-18% LESS meat.
Their meat bundles are almost always overpriced and frozen globs. Then you get 10lb boxes home to find one huge frozen clump of frozen meat! Their bundles can almost always be purchased separately for less money.
A lot of flash IQF stuff with many additives and solutions added. If they'd just advertise honestly and answer people's questions when it relates to an answer thats not in their favor, it may help avoid some of the negativity that's beginning to build publicly.
Off brand frozen turkeys for $1.99/lb purchased in bulk when they're 19c/lb at Publix when on sale or 99 cents a lb regular price elsewhere. A lot of advertising tricks just to get you in the store. I've known many who drive 30+ miles to find no stock when they arrive.
Take some time to watch a documentary called Food, Inc. You'll know exactly what im talking about. Also if you don't know already do a quick search on the quality cuts if meat. Choice, select, prime. Also, research how lower priced cuts of meats are raised and processed.
All of the above doesn't mean it's BAD or you're going to get food poisoning... far from that. You're just going to be in awe over the advertised price, get in the store and buy 15 other items all because of price - then, after cooking it you'll quickly realize the difference.
Summary- it's all about honesty and fair marketing. They've NEVER addressed a negative concern publicly. Their prices are inconsistent and they've often raise prices just to put them on sale. I've seen them selling bulk items for much more money than individual sale items and their bulk items are usually one large clump of flash frozen frosted food. Sometimes outdated past the "sell by" date but answer on the fact it's been frozen. That doesn't make it OK.
Any questions or disbelief? Sort the other reviews from low to high. Consistent with my review.
EDIT: 7/10/24. They had a buy 2 get 1 free special on a lot of meats. Best used by 7/16/24. I got home and noticed there were two labels on each package. I pulled off the top label and the best used by date was July 5th. Yes, they were frozen, but who knows when and still, I'm sure DOH wouldn't approve of this type of sale. If I freeze them at home that's MY choice but to freeze them and re-label the expiration date is...
Read moreAbsolutely Horrible Customer Service, I called in about getting an 8 lb chuck roast for a birthday dinner and was told $5.99lb and I asked if I needed to get it cut before I came in and lady said No, No. just come in and go to the butcher and they will take care of you, that was yesterday and today we came in and I stood there at the butchers doors for 15min and the big jug headed butcher just kept walking by looking at me and would not help then a lady stocking shelves asked if I needed help so I told her she went to the butcher and she came back to tell that the butcher said he had cut all the chuck and if I wanted Chuck besides what the small pieces out on counter it would change the price by a dollar something a lb. Also have received rott n bacon and freezer burn chicken ther grey package meat on the display counter now today I do t recommend theirs shit show.i informed I drove 45 miles one way for this, so we left and went to Sam’s and they custom cut an 8 lb and cheaper per lb, people your aren’t getting a good deal here nor good customer service, was told they didn’t care if I was unhappy there’s plenty of other customers here. Will never go back for the bad service and...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about my recent visit. On one hand it’s nice to have access to more affordable meat and support a localish (we drove from Raleigh) business but on the other I wasn’t super impressed with the quality. We got a number of things- wings, tenders, and a tritip. The wings were good. They cooked up well and we enjoyed them. The chicken tenders were really slimey and just had an odd amount of liquid in the bottom of the package. The tritip was really disappointing. I haven’t had one since I worked at a butcher shop back home and was very excited to prepare it but it was definitely spoiled after just two days in the fridge. My boyfriend opened the package and it smelt like sour cream, we tossed the whole thing.
I do not think we will be visiting again in the future. I sold beef for a small farm for 6 years and worked at a butcher shop processing meat for one and this wasn’t a...
