After landscapers cut the tree in our yard we found baby dove on ground in rocks under hot sun and the mother was protecting it and sitting on it while on the ground so we knew this bird needed help so I followed instructions leaving a text with pictures as instructed and got a response very quickly with info how-to re-nest this bird. Then I had to text again to see if she cld tell age by pics I sent and turned out dove wasn't old enough to be out of next so we gathered nesting stuff in wooden box placed bird inside then secured it in the tree . We were sad to see mom hadn't returned and had almost given up hope she would return when sure enough 16 hours after we placed it back In tree we look out and there in the box mom had finally returned and seemed very happy with baby in new nest we made I couldn't have done it if it wasn't for the very nice lady who kindly gave me all instructions I needed to get these bird back up in their tree after careless landscapers cut off branches they shouldn't have because the birds nests were there. I will be speaking to my homeowners association making a complaint about this. There was no need to even cut back these branches since tree wasn't even overgrown. They also removed all the shade...
Read moreI have worked in animal protection all my life and birds have my heart, but I was unprepared for a life with a scarlet macaw who came from a hoarder home and bonded only with me. He had lived his years with 37 dogs and an African Grey and lived inside a cage big enough for a budgie. His tail was bent like a capital U from being in that small space. He spent a year with me getting acclimated to a big space, good nutrition, flying, etc and would not be handled by anyone other than me. This was sort of adorable at first and then became problematic as I was in my mid-30s at the time and starting a family. I knew that Jackie could not possibly spend the rest of his life with me. I found Oasis and they understood that Jackie needed to be there. I was in New York City and I flew across the country to bring beautiful Jackie Sparrow to them. I have seen good bird rescues and less good bird rescues and Oasis is the best of the absolute best. I would have become a volunteer on the spot if I didn't live 2500 miles away. This was fourteen years ago (sorry, a totally overdue review!) I still donate to this day. They are an incredible gift to parrots everywhere....
Read moreThe bird sanctuary is in a beautiful area in Arizona where the parrots can have outdoor aviary habitats that are as natural as possible so that they can live in large flocks or small groups. Special needs parrots are housed individually in indoor habitats with a lot of fresh air, and views of both other birds and the outdoors, and sunshine. The staff is incredibly caring, dedicated, and knowledgeable and they know the backstories, names, and personalities of each of the close to 1,000 birds who live here. This sanctuary has been thriving for 20 years and is run like a corporation with a board of directors, a CPA, a lawyer, a veterinarian, and full financial transparency so that you know that when you donate, your contribution really is going to help the birds and to help perpetuate a professional organization that does a lot of good. The Oasis is doing an outstanding job filling a very urgent need to provide loving homes for...
