Bought a Dodge Ram from Tyler 12/21/20, that said there was nothing mechanically or electrical wrong with it (have the texts to prove it), didn't even have it 7 days and it left us stranded in Dubuque with a bad fuel pump. My fiancé and I still owed $1500 on it that was being paid that day 12/28/20. Called Tyler he came up to Dubuque and hit the gas tank and removed the negative wire from the battery to reset the electrical board (the brain), the truck started right up afterwards. Tyler told us if we had any more problems call him and he would fix it and to drop it by the shop if it continued. Tyler also stated that the cause was because ice got up on top of the fuel pump and the fuel pump was brand new. We then paid him the remaining amount of $1500 that was owed and he signed over the title right there in the parking lot in Dubuque. The very next day the truck would not start again, had to bang on the gas tank for 3 hours to finally get it started (even pulled the negative wire off the battery as Tyler had said to do). We tried to get ahold of Tyler for 3 days after this and leaving us stranded for the 4th time in 6 days and he wouldn't return our phone calls or texts to bring the truck in to be fixed. We pulled the bed off the truck to get to the fuel pump in the gas tank, only to find that the "new fuel pump" wasn't new and it had been rigged with 2 small old rusted fuel pumps tied together and the hoses and harnesses were crossed and not connected properly. We bought a new fuel pump that was the right one, not 2 smaller ones rigged together and rusted out, and put in the new pump and connected the hoses and harnesses properly. The truck now starts every time with no fuel pump issues. Be forewarned, Tyler will tell you whatever he has to just to sell a vehicle. He's a scam artist and would NEVER do business with him or recommend him or his company Bernard Automotive EVER again. I would rate him and his business a negative 10 stars if it was possible! Stay away from his business, Bernard Automotive, or you could end up with a much higher priced fix then a $250 part. Luckily my fiancé and family/friends were able to do the labor, otherwise the bill to fix it would have been...
Read moreWent there in February to buy a car. I’m from Bernard and most everyone is great in Bernard but Tyler was not. When we were there we had great customer service. I picked out a car and it drove great during test drive. After I spent $5500 to purchase it, I had it for 2 hours. Then on my way to Dubuque the engine died. I asked him for a refund and he said no but said he would make it right. He didn’t. He waited 2 weeks to come get the thing then it took him another week to tell me what I already knew from my dad who is also a mechanic that the motor was shot. Would not let me return the vehicle or gave me money money back at all. He tried to charge me $2500 for a whole new motor! Not counting labor. Then when I said no and I wanted my car back his partner had the audacity to hand me a BILL for labor and diagnostics even though we told him what was wrong already. He said we didn’t owe anything due to the situation but this was ridiculous. He also wrote down that I only spent $1000 on the car instead of the $5500 that I handed him and had witnesses see me hand him. He’s a scam artist!! DO...
Read moreI’ve bought a few cars from the guys at Bernard automotive and I have been extremely satisfied with my purchases. Anytime you buy a used car there is a chance something could go wrong with it and that’s simply because they’re older and things wear out over time and that’s something I fully accept when I bought my cars. My favorite part about Bernard Automotive is their willingness to help diagnose and fix whatever problems have arisen with my vehicles, and they’re always very reasonable with their quotes to fix those things. Even a few weeks after I bought my forester the fuel pump went out and they replaced it free of charge which was totally unexpected. Garrett and Tyler are great guys and I will continue to purchase cars from them...
