All right everyone let's go ahead and buckle up; because your favorite pun-slinging patriarch is back with another review that’ll have you groaning all the way to Bryson City! We recently had the distinct pleasure – and by pleasure, I mean a view so good it almost made me forget my golf score – of stopping by the Charles A. Webb Overlook. And let me tell ya, this place isn’t just good, it’s nearly impossible to 'overlook'! Ha! See what I did there? Don’t worry, there’s plenty more where that came from! Let’s talk about the main attraction: the views, glorious views! Seriously, folks, it’s a panoramic paradise. You’ve got mountains for days, trees as far as the eye can see, and a feeling of peace that almost made me forget to ask if anyone needed to use the facilities. It’s truly a peak experience! I was so taken aback, I almost fell over-look! Get it? Secondly, and this is a big one for a dad on a road trip, it’s free! That’s right, folks, you can enjoy all this breathtaking beauty without breaking the bank. My wallet was so happy, it almost did a little jig. It has more views than you can shake a stick at for that matter! It’s a real bargain for the eyes! Finally, the third gem this overlook offers is the perfect photo opportunity! My wife, bless her heart, got about a hundred shots of me pretending to hold up the mountains. I tell ya, my arms are gonna be rock solid after that workout! It’s truly a snapshot of perfection, a picture-perfect moment for the family album. Just be careful not to fall for the temptation to take too many! Seriously though, if you’re ever in the Bryson City area and looking for a place that offers incredible views, a fantastic price (free!), and the chance to create some hilarious memories, the Charles A. Webb Overlook is a must-stop. It’s got a great big appeal to it! So, what are you waiting for? Go take a look! You won't be...
Read moreWebb Overlook is a beautiful pullout spot 13 miles north of the Oconaluftee Visitor Center on the south side of GSMNP at Cherokee NC. On our October 2020 visit (and having several memorable sunrise photos), I wanted to enjoy and capture sunset settling on the mountains, and Charles A. Webb Overlook was just the spot - serene with a view of the curve of Clingman's Dome on the western horizon with many interwoven hills heading south toward Bryson. Several people - maybe over a dozen - joined us and seemed as content as we were to stand quietly and soak up peace as the colors and light shifted with dusk. As Ralph Fletcher's book says, "Twilight comes twice," and I'm glad to have savored that time and again in the Smokies. Webb Overlook is well...
Read moreWhat a tremendous view! Only in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Just being here in October 2022, the traffic was fairly light, and the parking in the Charles Webb Overlook was mostly open. So come in the off season and you don't have to fight the masses for that one best photo...
