Quick version of the story - after two weeks at Stone Mountain, my three cats (who were all separated for their entire stay at Stone Mountain) came back WITH FLEAS. As you can see below, my experience is that their staff did not care, and tried to blame us instead. I had my vet check the cats multiple times for fleas before they were boarded at Stone Mountain â no fleas were ever found. After Stone Mountain I couldnât miss the fleas if I tried. My vet reviewed the timeline shown below and agrees it is extremely unlikely that the fleas came from anywhere but Stone Mountain.
I have received nothing as far as compensation from Stone Mountain for the fleas. Keep in mind, I have consulted with an independent veterinarian; Stone Mountain has only their word that they never saw fleas. Judge for yourself if they really care about your pets and their hygiene:
The timeline: 7/26: Cat #1 and Cat #2 arrive from down south, where they have had flea treatments their entire stay. Some bites were noticed; worried about FIV. These two are quarantined until cleared of fleas. Cat #3 and Our Pug are both in the house, but kept separate. No fleas with Cat #3 or Our Pug. 7/27: Cat #1 and Cat #2 are taken to the vet to inspect the bites/cuts. We are informed that they are flea bites, but the vet sees no fleas and says they are clean. We verified that they had, indeed, been using flea medicine. Random bites are expected, but no chance of infestation. Cat #1 and Cat #2 are allowed to mix with Our Pug and Cat #3. 7/28-8/21: All pets (Cat #1, Cat #2, Cat #3, and Our Pug) all live together. No signs of fleas; bites on Cat #1 and Cat #2 heal. 8/14: Cat #2 is taken to the vet for urinating outside the litter box (a problem unrelated to fleas). Vet once again did not see any evidence of fleas. 8/21: Cats are dropped off to your care; Our Pug is taken to my parents' house. 8/22: Before leaving, we vacuum the entire house, as well as change bed sheets. No fleas have been noted in our house - ever. (This cleaning regimen has nothing to do with fleas, just a desire to return to a clean house.) 8/23-9/7: House is empty; no cats, dogs, or people. No living bodies on which fleas could breed. 9/7 (evening): We return and sleep in the house (no pets). No flea bites are noted. 9/8: We pick up the cats in the morning. My wife notices them scratching throughout the day. When I get home after work, we spot a flea on Cat #2' coat (so easy on a white coat) and I immediately go to get flea medicine. The cats are treated within the hour. Our Pug is left at my parents' house so he does not get fleas (he does not and has never had fleas). Biggest mistake that night: allowing the cats to sleep on the bed (assumed the medicine worked faster than it actually did). I wake up with flea bites. The highest concentration was where Cat #3 slept. 9/9: My wife called - you brushed her off, assuming we had not begun treatment (we had). Begin daily flea combings and end up with hundreds of fleas removed from the three cats. Cat #1 had the least, Cat #2 had more, and Cat #3 has the most. Cat #3 has NEVER been down south. She has never been near an outdoor cat. Cats are banned from our bedroom (they are not happy). 9/10: More combings, more fleas (though fewer). 9/11: Contact vet for advice on further flea reduction. Got more medicine (extra dose). 9/12-9/14: Flea populations continue to reduce. Cat #3's hair is VERY hard to rid of all the fleas. I've never seen flea dirt on her before we got her home, but now I see it in every...
Read moreOn December 27, 2022, I picked up my dog after his stay and was horrified to find that he had multiple areas of cuts bleeding on his body. When I examined his cage, I found it was covered in blood, and upon further examination, I discovered that other cages were similar. I asked to file a complaint, the employee told me after she had came back from the back that she had filed it. when i came back to get a copy, I found out that the employee lied and did not file it. I asked to speak with the manager and The employee told me that the manager, Amber, was not in, but when I came back to ask another question, another employee said that Amber was there. I spoke to Amber about my dog's condition, the employee lying about filing a report and her not being there and Amber responded with a rude and insensitive attitude, made excuses, and called me out of my name. Furthermore, they provided little information about the incidents that led to my dog's condition. I was lied to multiple times and treated disrespectfully. Despite my attempts to contact them through calls and emails, I have been consistently ignored and given excuses for not being able to talk. My dog had to be taken to the vet, where it was determined that the excuses given by the staff were false. My dog's tail was sprained, he was limping on his right leg, and had bloodied scratches on his testicles and mouth. I will never bring my dog back to this place again. My dog is incredibly sweet and was not even one year old yet. I cannot understand how he could have been in such a bad condition. I strongly advise anyone who picks up their dog from this place to inspect the cage they were in and check for notes on their dog's condition. I am deeply disappointed by the cruelty that some individuals, particularly those working with dogs, inflict upon our pets. It is unacceptable and goes against the trust and responsibility we entrust to them to care for our pets. It is our duty as pet owners to ensure that they are treated with love and respect and it is disheartening when those in positions of care for animals fail to uphold these standards. Please take a closer look at the refuse that aren't 4 and 5 stars. it is completely unsettling to see that this continues to happen. To this day, they are not wiling to resolve the issue due...
Read moreMy experience here was really disappointing. I spent $993 to board my two dogs for five nights at the Blaine, MN location. At first, I was really hopeful because the facility was clean and the front desk staff were friendly. I found the staff to be non-communicative and dismissive at the end of my experience. I spent extra on report cards (included in the $993) that turned out to be a piece of paper with stamps on it that you receive at the end of the visit. I had to call twice for an update on my dogs. When I called I was told that one of my dogs had not eaten in two days. When I expressed frustration about not being contacted sooner, the staff told me that they have a '48 hour' policy when it comes to dogs not eating, however, I cannot find anything about this policy on their website. I was told that I could spend additional money on a food topper for my dog if I was interested. When I asked to speak to the manager Abby, I was told that I was not called because my dog was grazing on his food, which counted as eating. While no one ever apologized for not communicating this with me, they did comp a topper to give him for dinner.
When I had let the manager know I wanted to pick my dogs up early that night (instead of the next morning as planned), she told me that I would be charged a $50 late pickup fee, on top of what I already had paid for the night that they were not using. Abby agreed to refund the night but took the $50 fee out of the refund (I told her the time I would be picking up). I CALLED AT 5:50 TO MAKE SURE I WOULD BE ABLE TO GET INTO THE BUILDING SINCE I WOULD BE ARRIVING LATE. TURNS OUT, DOORS WOULD BE LOCKED AND PHONE NUMBER WOULD NOT BE WORKING. I don't know how she expected us to get ahold of her and why she did not provide that information previously on the phone. When I came to pick up my dogs that night they brought our dogs to us outside. My 90lb German Shepherd was attached to his leash by his flimsy dog tag ring (not either of the two collars he was wearing). We were next to a busy road. The report card I received ended up showing that my dog had not been eating well for three days as opposed to two.
While I am aware some of these things can come down to a dog's temperament, I found that the staff and care provided were poor for...
