Had my first (and hopefully last) experience at Ponderosa last night. It was a Lucas Oil DLM race, so obviously the place is going to be packed out, and it seemed like the track had never experienced that kind of volume before, but this is NOT the first time LODLM has raced at this location. The bleachers are wobbly, rusted, and generally felt unsafe, the track lighting went out 2 times within about an hour because somehow people were accidentally hitting the switch (move the switch. Put a cover on it.) while cars were on the track, the bathrooms were AWFUL, even by "local dirt track" standards (literally every single toilet in the women's bathroom was clogged by about half way through the night), the men's bathroom had no sink and no soap at all, and the staff was grossly unprepared. We waited in line for food for 40 minutes. Forty minutes. They had one lady working the window for the concession stand in the pits, and she literally did not care to be there. She was painfully slow, kept getting orders wrong, and couldn't calculate the cost of people's orders correctly. The food was ALL cold. Cheeseburgers, hot dogs, hamburgers, mozz sticks....cold. All of it. It was like they cooked everything at lunch time and then didn't serve it until later. I love track food....this was sorely disappointing.
The track itself, the surface that they race on, was awesome. Great racing, fast cars, and good views. But the facilities and the staff really ruined the experience. My friends said it used to be so much better but I guess its tanked in the last 10...
Read moreThis place is a nightmare! First, no signs off the main road to find it. Next you are forced to park in a hay field that has not been cut in over a month. Then you find out that admission price is raised to $30 each! Once in the gate it becomes obvious that they over sold the event by a large margin. The only available seating was in the front row of rotting wood that was probably used for little league baseball 50 years ago. Of course this was only available because you get a Mud Shower every time a car comes around the corner. After giving up trying to watch any of the race given the constant mud pelting we find out that track management didn't maintain an exit out of the hay field (and they were no help solving the problem) we finally squeezed out after two hours of waiting. This place has ruined racing for me .... I'll...
Read moreI've attended several dirt tracks in Kentucky and in other states. This is a fast track that I love to attend. I was there Friday and it was fantastic! Just so you know, if you attend a dirt track, you will get some dirt on you no matter where you sit and it's common to pay a higher admission price when the track has a big payout race. Kids 12 and under get in free and this is a family...
