This gym is decent for recreational climbing or as a tourist attraction, but it’s not well-suited for serious climbers. The day pass price is fair to a point, but the membership rates feel steep, especially considering the limited hours throughout the week.
One major issue is the overcrowding, particularly with children. Waiting in line for a route can take up to 20 minutes, which is frustrating if you’re trying to get in a solid session. Safety is another concern—many climbing holds are noticeably loose. On one route, I ascended about a third of the way up when a hold twisted, causing me to fall. As I fell, a small child walked underneath me, and I nearly landed on him. I reported this to a staff member, but it was never addressed. Loose holds were a recurring problem across multiple routes, and this lack of maintenance raises serious safety concerns.
While I appreciate that they allow climbing with a tree saddle as long as it includes an SRS loop for proper attachment, I find their approach to discounts disappointing. As a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom who spent most of my deployments in hazardous fire zones, I was surprised and frustrated to learn they don’t offer a veterans discount. While student discounts are available, I feel their discount structure could be more inclusive.
Despite these issues, the rental fees are reasonable, and the gear is in fair condition. If you’re just looking for a place to wear out your kids, it might be worth a visit. However, for serious climbers, the long wait times, loose holds, and lack of safety oversight make it feel like a...
Read moreThis is my least favorite gym of all gyms I've been to which is a pretty impressive statement with some gyms I've been to. I was hoping to make this my gym while visiting family in Ohio nearby as I come up a few times a year but I will not be returning.
When I got there with my dad I told them he was not climbing but asked if they could show him how to belay so he could belay me. They said they were too busy but let me rent a harness for him (somehow for 1 day pass and 1 harness they charged me 45$) so I was showing him how to belay (I've been climbing for a few years and have my own grigri and gear). I was going about 2 feet up the wall just so he could feel tension on the rope and he already had the hand movements down and they told me I'm not allowed to show him how to belay - so why let him rent a harness?! To walk around in for the fun of it? In reality, likely for the $$.
So I thought I'd do a couple autos to get in a quick workout and leave. But auto belays on top of each other and cross over into other auto belay territory. They were also almost constantly full of small kids (bday party, winter break, idk but whatever the case it was nearly impossible to find a spot to go). Holds were greasy and dirty and in need of a good brush on many of them. Also, no lockers or cubbies I could see for jackets, etc. so stuff was laid out all over the dirty floor.
Will go elsewhere. 45$ for about 20-30 minutes of headaches and 1 route I was actually able to do it is the worst deal for climbing...maybe good for a kids bday party but if you're going to actually climb and workout,...
Read moreThis is an awesome rock climbing gym with great prices! It was $20 per adult for the day, which includes shoe and harness rental! They are also connected to an outdoor store, which was fun to walk around! (The store is pricey)
The workers were nice, but they were young, and I felt they assumed everyone knew what to do beyond paying for your admission and rentals. We had to track someone down to ask how their equipment worked, what the rules were and to change out shoe sizes. (They run small)
The only downside is, since it’s covid season, you have to wear your mask the ENTIRE time. Which I found ridiculous! If you are a climber then you know why I’m upset. Those who aren’t avid climbers, climbing is a workout! You become easily winded, huffing and puffing, and with a mask on I was literally inhaling my mask while trying to climb to the top of the wall. There became a point where I actually pulled it off my face. I couldn’t breathe or catch my breath. Let alone, the place is not busy, and there is no one climbing next to you? So that was a little frustrating.
We were here for about 2 hours, which is more than enough time to get your climbing in. We were exhausted and had a great time!! I...
