I cannot say enough good things about Ronnie Briscoe and River of Swamps Boat Tours! My kids and I were visiting Louisiana from California, and a swamp tour was high on our list. We really had no idea how wonderful it was going to be. We chose Ronnie's company over a number of other ones because of (1) local recommendations, (2) it was not a large or crowded or noisy boat so we saw and heard so much wildlife, (3) the flexibility and personal touch of Ronnie in ensuring we had the tour we wanted, and (4) the location in the Atchafalaya Basin. I'm certain that morning will be an enduring memory for all of us - well, not necessarily Ronnie - because it was so incredible. His expertise and respect for the area were evident as he pointed out the wildlife and identified bird calls and plants, but there was so much more. He answered every question I had and also discussed the history and the ecology, how people catch crawfish, and how the swamp changes from one day to the next. He was great with my kids and seemed like the kind of guy who would be personable with anyone. Facts I'd want to know: The tour was easy to book, and he got back to me right away once I queried online. Boat has no shade, so bring a hat and/or sunscreen, but you are close to the water and have great visibility. He has a cooler with cold drinks on the boat. We saw tons of alligators! And so many birds! But if you want to see something else, just ask. I don't know if this is true for every trip, but I met up at a boat launch area and the directions were clear and the parking was easy.

Awesome Experience! Ronnie Briscoe took my wife and I on a delightful exploration through rivers, bayous and areas around the swamp. The history, nature and culture here are so fascinating. This area is incredibly beautiful and the memories will last us a lifetime.

WOW, what an experience! We visited Louisiana and wanted an "authentic" swamp experience. On a previous trip we had taken a more commercial tour and enjoyed it but it was limited on schedule and location. Ronnie gave us a tour that exceeded our expectations. First, the overall travel distance was about 30 miles and we saw an incredible amount of wildlife including ibis, blue heron, spoon bills, an owl, many, many alligators. The asian carp were jumping all around the boat. Secondly, Ronnie is a local and really knows his facts on hunting, trapping, and fishing. He is a true Louisiana outdoorsman. If you go into the swamp, Ronnie is the guy to go with. He knows the names of the plants and animals. He explained the fishing techniques and showed examples crawfish traps and how they are used. For those who may be concerned about safety. He is a true professional with the appropriate safety gear onboard. We never felt unsafe or reckless. Very good tour. Thank you Ronnie!!

Our guide Mr. Ronnie carefully chose the best location for the time and weather that day to locate wildlife near Bayou Benoit.

Very environmentally oriented and environmentally sustainable, educational tour.

At the beginning of the trip we saw catfish, crappies, mullet, buffalo carp caught in the fishing traps he set.

As our tour progressed and quietly entered the beautiful and majestic cypress groves we saw juvenile alligators, spoonbill, ibis, egrets and herons. All the while our guide related some of the history and contemporary issues related to the stewardship of the swamps.

As we left the cypress groves and re-entered the main channel back to our landing we saw: Huge alligators basking in the sun, turtles, bald eagles, blue herons.

If/when we come back in the spring, we plan to tour again with...
