My wife bought a pair of boots here as a Christmas gift for me. They didn't fit, so I tried to return them for an exchange a few days after Christmas. I was surprised to see this place is shut down from Christmas through New Years – so much for customer service. I returned again when they finally reopened with the boots still in the box, tags still attached, unworn, with the receipt. The clerk and manager explained that they offer NO REFUNDS ON ANYTHING. They said it was in fine print on the receipt – given to you after they have your money.
I asked my wife, and she said that no one said there was such a restrictive policy. In fact, she said she noticed a separate clearance room offering discounted items with a “no returns or refunds” sign, but did not shop in that section, since she knew there was a good chance that I would have to return the style/size. She said there were no conspicuous notices anywhere in the main store where she bought my boots at full price – not on sale/clearance, etc. The salesperson helping her also did not disclose this harsh no refunds policy.
I've shopped here before, but will never again. We try to buy locally, and often pay much higher prices to do so. At the very minimum, we expect to have the most basic of customer service standards when buying locally. South Texas Tack’s prices are already sky high. I can only imagine how they take advantage of the unsuspecting folks from Houston passing through. Read moreI purchased a pair of Ariat boots from South Texas Tack back in October 2019. Fast forward to January 2020; After 3.5 months of normal everyday wear, no extreme wear in muddy/wet conditions, the leather on the boot separated from the sole. After reading through Ariat’s warranty policy, which states that the Authorized Retailer should honor Ariat’s 1 year warranty that covers manufacturers defects in workmanship, I contacted South Texas Tack. South Texas Tack informed me the issue should be covered and to bring the boot into the store for approval/inspection. I drive 40 miles to the Brenham location, only to be told that they will charge me $20 and ship them to Ariat for inspection and should take 4-6 weeks (this message was relayed from a manager in the back that I can only assume was too busy to meet with a customer face to face). Unsatisfied with this outcome I contacted Ariat personally for a better explanation. Ariat informed me the Authorized Retailer (South Texas Tack) should have honored the warranty and offered an in store replacement. Within 3 minutes of emailing pictures to Ariat I was sent a pre-paid shipping label to return my boots and Ariat (not charged $20). Ariat informed me that my replacement will arrive within 2 weeks of receiving the return tracking number (not possibly 4-6 weeks as informed by South Texas Tack). Will I buy Ariat boots again? I ordered on Saturday and called on Monday to follow up and see if they were ready for pick up. The lady that answered said she would look into my order and get back with me. That never happened. So the following day my mom had to go to town and stopped by there for me to see if the order was ready. She called and told me they don’t even have the boots that i ordered and paid for online. My order was never updated, or cancelled. If they would have followed up like they said they would maybe I could have found something somewhere else and got it here in time for Christmas. The manager that I spoke with on the phone was rude and honestly seemed annoyed that I had a problem with the fact that I purchased something that wasn’t even available and that I also had a problem with them not following up like they said they would. The managers solution was for me to “print a picture of the out-of-stock boot and wrap that”. What a terrible solution. Rude people and horrible Customer service.
