Read moreThis campground has to be one of the coziest I have ever been to. The people here are warm and friendly, their hospitality is over the top. We have a 44' toy hauler and the site we were on was very roomy and easy back in. There's not a lot of sites but for what it is, the accommodations are all there. 50 amp service, sewer and water. They claim to have wifi but we never could receive it.
Getting there is tricky. The sign for the campground is kind of hidden and it's on a curve going up the hill. The sign is light blue and the lettering is white, so it doesn't stand out very well. The first thing you see when coming up the hill is a blue sign that reads "CAMPING" and has an arrow pointing to the left. At the sign's location there's a fork is the road so at first glance you would think that that's where you are suppose to go. The directions given to us over the phone were poor. They say to turn on the 2nd road past the post office. The roads they are talking about look like driveways so you are unable to see what they're talking about. They claim there's a sign out front (which there is), but because of the poop color combination it is hard to see coming around the corner. It is also partly hidden by a tree.
The dirt road going down the valley into the campground is tight for any big rig. As mentioned, we have a 44' fifth wheel and unless you REALLY know how to navigate tight turns, you're going to have some issues getting down this enterance. The help there will guide you to your site, but it is best to NOT have them help you back in. They apparently do not have much experience setting you up for a back in. Use your own judgment, not theirs.
I thought that most campgrounds would have trees and other obstacles either trimmed or raised at least 13' 6" for big rigs, but I was wrong. On the way out I noticed what appeared to be a very long extention cord dragging behind me. I get out and notice that this very long wire was hanging off my roof. I climb onto the roof and see that part of this wire had gotten caught under my roof air conditioner. It almost looked like I snagged a low hanging electrical line but upon closer examination I see that it was actually their internet wire that was attached to their office building... notice I said "was attached". Why it was hanging low enough to catch under my roof's air conditioner I don't know. My fifth wheel is 13' 4" tall at the top of the air conditioner. It is approximately 12' 6" at the roof top, meaning that this wire had to be at least 12' 6"...
Read moreLets begin with the positive! River Bend RV park is a nice, queit, quaint little campground! There is a very small stream that runs along one side of the park. They have a nice Gazebo where people gather daily around 5:00 p.m. to socialize. The lots are level, gravel, partially shaded and most have a concrete patio and picnic table. There is a bath house and laundry area but we didn't use them so I have no comment.
Now, here is my own personal negative thought "FINDING THE ENTRANCE TO THE RV PARK CAN BE QUITE DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY FOR FIRST TIME VISITORS!. I'm not placing full blame on the RV park for this as it wouldn't be fair but, simply adding an (ARROW) to the RV PARK SIGN would be very helpful! PLEASE READ ON TO THE END BECAUSE I BELIEVE YOU WILL FIND THE INFORMATION HELPFUL! Prior to embarking on our journey I used Google Maps to look at our route mostly for the last 10 miles. Using Google Maps sattelite and 3D 360* view the drive entrance is rather hidden by the overhead trees lining the roadside and the entrance way. We were traveling west on US-64 from Brevard. My map chose exiting off of US-64 onto Kim Miller road and we did! It's a winding steep road for several miles driving a 38' Class A and towing a vehicle. Our map also told us to turn off of Kim Miller Road shortly before we got to the stop sign at end of the road. That was a mistake and it took us up to another part of the Resort which required us to turn our 38' RV around. After we got back on to Kim Miller Road, at the stop sign, we turned right and proceed up the highway for a short distance past the post office. TO HELP AVOID THIS PROBLEM stay on US-64 west and exit right onto BLUE RIDGE ROAD and travel a couple of miles until you reach the Post Office. Just past the Post Office at the RESORT ENTRANCE there is a sign for the RV Park on the right side of the road. However, the sign does not have an (ARROW) pointing to go down the gravel path to the RV Resort! BUT, STRAIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU there is a (BLUE & WHITE ARROW) sign POINTING LEFT that says camping. Do not go up that road or you will have to turn around again and come back to the original sign. So, when you approach the RV Resort sign turn RIGHT immediately and go down the GRAVEL PATH lined by trees even though it doesn't really appear to be the pathway to the campground! The campground will be a short distance down the hill!...
