It must be initially addressed that there are many reviews of this school by angsty tweens that hate school. I was there before, and even still now I have some dislike of the education system. However, that's not something the school can fix, being an issue that is caused by the state of Ohio. Generally, Bryan City Schools, from my experience, has phenomenal teachers. Sometimes I am surprised that educators of such high caliber are in such high quantity in our frankly tiny town. Of the many years I have attended this school I have had very few I would consider "bad," or even "poor." The rather small size of the school district also allows for excellent student-teacher relations as teachers will know, or at least be familiar with every student that they have. A vast majority of issues that I personally have with this school are not the fault of the school itself, but with the state of education and troubled family life (i.e. bullying.) While there are, of course, things the school could do to mitigate such issues that the school does not, generally the Bryan City School district provides exceptional education and a good environment.
DISCLAIMER: My opinion may be skewed by relation to Bryan City Schools staff members, both in writing and in my experience of Bryan City Schools. However, I did not possess this status until very recently, with over 90% of my time spent at Bryan City Schools as an individual with no relation to staff members. As it stands, I have no knowledge of any instance where the aforementioned relation has benefited me unfairly; however, I find it to be in good practice to note caveats...
Read moreRight now Jeson’s autism looks like tip toeing, arm sucking, akward encounters, grunting, no awareness of personal space, breakdowns when overwhelmed, selective eating, impulsive hitting, needs routine, gets time and a half to complete school work, gets to type notes instead of handwriting, and gets a test setting of no more than 8 people in the classroom. Autism doesn’t just vary from person to person, it varies in a person over time. Jeson’s Autism use to include self harming behaviors, tantrums, hair pulling, destructive behaviors, etc. We have made huge strides the last five years with OT, Speech and having him in the right class setting with amazing teachers that have ample knowledge on autism. Thank God we moved to Florida. Ohio schools made no effort to understand his needs and provided no services for children with autism. Good luck getting an IEP there. Jeson’s newest accomplishments at home is that he has stopped co sleeping with me at almost 13 years old, and he does chores such as silverware sorting, hanging up his shirts, folding beach towels, and picking up dog poop in the yard. I am so proud of my boy. ❤️ I suggest that if you have a special needs child MOVE FAR AWAY FROM NW OHIO! I hope they see this review and implement changes to include special...
Read moreBCS is a tight knit community where talent doesn't matter. Because if you are a teachers child, child of the mayor, doctor, lawyer, or athletic booster, your child will get all of the playing time and good grades despite your child's talents. Same goes for the ridiculous amount of staff they carry to inflate expenses and cost tye taxpayers even more in operating expenses. Unfortunately life's not fair, and neither is Bryan...
