There are a handful of things in life that folks want to remember in older age. The first milestone is waiting until you have the privledge to drive. Graduation, marriage, and other important life events tend to follow this first big milestone. It is not pleasant to take off work multiple days in a row for our sons waiting several days to get their license. My oldest son had a very bad experience at the DMV in Bryson 3 years ago where the old person was nothing but insulting to him complaining about his writing, clothes, etc... which naturally made him upset. He was verbally abusive the whole process until I finally said that enough was enough.
My youngest son has gone three days now since his birthday in hopes of getting this done. This requires him missing school to do so, an adult to take off of work, and naturally getting all of the documents in order.
This morning he was first in line at 6:30 AM which ensured he would get it today. He took off of school again during finals week. He went from first to be picked to back of the line as the person said be here after one. He got there at 1:05 and she moved him to the back of all the people. What is the point of having a list to get on in the morning and waiting half the day -could you not have just used that for the order? My son and I were both shocked as she kept calling everyone in front of him again. Then he has to choose for his summer job as a lifeguard training at 3:30 (or loose that opportunity) versus wait until 5 and then start this whole process over tommorrow. Come on NC surely we can do better than this? I do not know of any other state that makes it near impossible to get a license. We all pay for this right with DMV taxes annually.
I would give it less than 1 star but that is not an option. On the drive home from another dissapointment, we discussed just how much opportunity cost and loss this was to the citizens of the state in NC. These DMVs are a joke all across the state from what we hear.
Perhaps down the road, you could spell exactly the policies out on what after 1 means? I know these policies have changed often the past 5 years. If the transparency was clear then I think that would go a long ways to not have folks upset. When I asked the DMV person a question walking outside about next day plans (day 4) it was a rude and insulting response. I can say that if I had run and conducted myself like this for over 40 years self-employed it would have never worked.
Hopefully one day it will be walk in and out within 15 mintues like it was when I was kid in East TN. Unbelievable...to...
Read moreThis was one of the worst DMV experiences I've ever had. I made an appointment online about two months ago. My appointment was this morning. I get there and walk in, and there are no signs or anything posted in the lobby to indicate whether you need to sign in or wait or anything. So I stepped to the door to ask the lady what I needed to do. Before I could even open my mouth to ask, she barks out at me, "You need to go sit and wait in the lobby!"
I was, frankly, taken aback at her attitude and tone. So I sit down and wait. More people begin to file in, also wondering whether they need to sit and wait. I waited for 25 minutes past my appointment time. She comes out and asks a white woman first what her name was and whether she had an appointment. She asks the only other white woman (who was with her son) the same thing. Then she asks two Hispanic ladies the same thing. Then she finally gets to me, saving me for last. (I'm Native, by the way.) She regarded me with what I can only describe as disdain and tells me to come on back. We proceed, and the entire time she is short with me.
When we're almost done, I inform her that my mailing address is different from my physical address, since I realized she hadn't asked, and my license was going to end up being sent to my physical where I can't get mail. She really gets an attitude at this point and is very rude to me. I was polite the entire time and had done absolutely nothing to warrant her attitude or rudeness.
I guess if you're white, she's friendly. So if you're not white or don't want to have someone be rude to you for no reason, I don't recommend going to this DMV office. I'll make sure I go to another...
Read moreThis place is understaffed, no doubt- but the one employee that they do have is a gem. Sure, she demands respect and doesnât take peopleâs B.S (like your spoiled, entitled child who ran the stop sign coming out of the DMV parking lot and pitched a screaming, crying fit because he canât drive- and shouldnât be on the road. So you allow him to cuss her out- and follow him in doing the sameâŚ)- Iâm sure that wasnât an isolated incident and she deals with people like that all the time. I would get tired of it too- but she stood her ground and demanded that she be respected (as she should have).
I came in almost at closing, had driven from Waynesville because I figured that location would be my best chance at getting my ID that I needed to be able to board my flight (I had lost my ID and passport). She literally stayed until after closing and helped me, we chatted about living in the area and life and what not and I absolutely adored it. She went out of her way to help me with a few other things and because of her generosity and kindness- I was able to make that VERY important flight for my surgery the next day.
People lack empathy- imagine dealing with hoards of anxious, snippy people who donât want to be there in the first place and who Iâm sure are rarely friendly every day BY YOURSELFâŚ
Itâs not her fault that sheâs the only one there- in fact, you should be thanking her for being there every day because if she wasnât, youâd be SOL.
I have to go back this week to get my DL reinstated and I am literally going out of my way just to come and see her. See...
