I went in to buy equipment for double rope and spur climbing using knots (no ascenders, descenders, etc..) to learn on my own on my own property.
I was helped by one of the professional climbers, he's in their recent YouTube videos showing how to use gear for rescue. He genuinely loved climbing, talking about it, talking about his experience and continued education, and comparing the products they had.
When I said I prefer to have redundant safety systems, he knew exactly how to do it (this was mostly with the saddle). He asked questions instead of assuming.
I'm bad at remembering proper terminology and he dealt with it eloquently including going with the flow of me calling a specific connector type the "clicky thing". 😁
He also had memorized all their package deals, so I saved money and got more.
He's the type of person we wish all salespeople were. Actually, he's just a caring person we all could strive to be.
At their store, there's a rig set up so you can try things out and compare. That was awesome.
They have everything available (assuming it didn't recently sell out), so I could see, touch and use it. That's really important to me for this type of equipment.
I came out with the gear I went there for, some extra nature-protecting gear (I didn't know existed prior), and a lot of knowledge.
The place is a 1 hour and 40 minute drive from my house. It was worth the drive. When my skillset is ready for the next upgrade, I'll definitely make another trip up there.
Reading through my review really made me realize how awesome the climber was. I'm so...
Read moreGood initial experience and ordered a few things...even got answers to questions. So all good, but the problems started when the pruning saw pole combo came with ferrule (clipping part) that wouldn’t attach to extension pole. Turns out the hole was drilled in wrong place. Ok...I let them know and they sent me a replacement (great). But turn out the replacement was only the metal piece for connecting them, not the ferrule. So know I have another job. Meant I had to figure out how to remove the original connection (attached by metal rivets) in order to attach replacement. Besides losing time doing tree work, I was spending a lot of time trying to fix the broken product they sent me. I wrote them again and they replied “You can use a punch and a hammer to pop the rivet out and then drill a hole into the pole and put in a new rivet.”
Well, sounds easy but it’s not. And kind of tone deaf to what I’m DOING to make their thing work. I already spent like 3 hours trying to fix and document the problem to them with photos. Then they tell me I have to do things I don’t have tools for and directions to do.
Hey how about sending me a whole replacement ferrule that I can use rather than a piece I have to know how to replace by undoing rivets and redoing rivets...or how about a product test before the original went out.
I like to support local businesses but this is a case where I wish I was dealing with a...
Read moreOver a few years I have bought a few items from these folks and had a good experience. In the last few weeks I had a mishap with my saddle which rendered it un-safe, so without a second thought i go online to Bartlett tree and pick-up the top of the line Petzl, while I am there I find a few other things bringing my bill up to just under $1,000.00. A day, literally a day later Bartlett has a sale on all the Petzl stuff, 20% off in fact. Feeling bad and like I may have made a mistake I called Bartlett and got Nikki. Nikki always answers the phone "please hold". Nikki tells me on the Friday that I called that she was busy and would have to ask permission would it be ok if she got back to me on Monday ? I said sure, she verified my number. Well Monday comes and goes, no call. So as Tuesday rolls around I call again. Nikki answers the phone please hold, I held for a few minutes and she comes on. Says that someone from accounting did not get back to her and that she would call me right back, promise. She in fact called me right back advising me that they would not honor the sale price on the stuff I just bought. It might be like $150.00. mind you I didn't want my money back, I was hoping for a store credit for the amount. While I am typing this I just got another email from Bartlett advertising the Petzl sale.. makes me want to return...
