There are actually two access points ... one from The Mother Miguel Trailhead / Rock House Trail off Paseo Vera Cruz or you can leave from the Sweetwater Campground. According to AllTrails the Rock House trail is only 2.1 miles one way. Departing from the campground is about twice as far. The bottom have is fairly flat and mostly a service road but provides pretty killer view of the Sweetwater Reservoir and distant view of downtown San Diego, Point Loma, Coronado, and the Coronado Islands. Once you start up the mountain the grade gets steep fast with one short area that was hands on the hill steep. Portions of the trail are a bit difficult to navigate as it is not always clearly marked. so there was a little satellite imagery required to find the correct path a couple times.
