Princeton Shooting Range — Local services in Camanche

The range isn't large, nor is it extravagant... but it's free! Our first time there on a Sunday afternoon in April was enjoyable. No range officer was there at the time we went, but I was told there is one at times on the weekends. There is plenty of space to shoot pistols, shotguns, or even medium range rifles, but you have to bring your own targets. We set up a target stand with our own steel targets, and that was nice because we didn't have to go down range.

And that's the biggest issue: you have to coordinate with others there to make sure the entire firing line is safe. If others around you are smart shooters, it goes very well. But I can imagine scenarios where there is no range officer and some unsafe shooters could cause an incident. Thankfully, everyone was very safe when we were there!

Overall, it's a nice free alternative if you are comfortable making sure everyone is shooting safely around you. But I'm a member of the Milan Rifle Club and that's well worth the membership fee for a variety of indoor and...

THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PLACE!! As a 21 year career Marine I was a weapons instructor of many types of firearms. It was also up to me to ensure safe and effective ranges were built or maintained with in the safety standards. I went to this range in July of 2013. It is just a mess, and free fire zone out there. NO SAFTEY at all for anyone. Also, I was with the Scott County Sheriff's Office. This range was always a trouble spot for various gang activity! If you value your life and enjoy shooting go else where!!! PLEASE I am not kidding as a Combat Veteran, I would rather be in a "Hot LZ" than this place. It is set up so people are firing to your left on a angle behind you in your directions!! Dirty and unsat!! best describe this shooting range. The State of Iowa should SHUT this place down, or redo it and staff it with someone to over see the day to day operations. There are many very fine shooting ranges that are safe. Yes... it cost a little but if your life is worth it, then do it! Semper Fi MSGT T.D....

It's a nice place considering that no one police up there brass and clean up after themselves. We shot at our targets we brought with us. There was other people out there we share the range with respect and notified each other when going down range to fix targets . Besides that not to bad but needs some tlc out there. We tried to police up brass from spent ammo. There was a guy out there trying to clean up the range not sure who he was, but he was a least trying...
