I didn't plan on visiting, but, I met fellow hikers who wanted to continue traveling the loop we started at the Mt. Morgan Trailhead. I'm glad đ I continued! The view is incredible! You can see Squam Lake, đď¸ mountains and the Fall foliage is breathing! The top đ of Mt. Percival has a slanted stone 𪨠area to walk around. There is a pile of 𪨠stones, though Jaggered they are not Rolling, at the top. The hike is moderate to difficult. It's about two miles. The biggest challenge is the climb up! There are two access points, the caves and the cliffs! We took the caves on our decent. It was a challenge! The cliffs are supposed to have ladders. The trail is well maintained and marked. I think đ¤ it's the Squam Lake Association or Preservation society that maintains the trail. 𪾠Logs have been cut up and moved that were once blocking the trail. The only wildlife I encountered were đżď¸ chipmunks, Alvin!, and Hickory Tussock Moth caterpillars. Don't touch the caterpillars! They have toxic barbs which can cause a rash, difficulty in breathing and possible vomiting! I recommend bringing a good pair of hiking shoes đ, water đŚ, backpack đ, but don't overfill it, hiking poles and maybe bug 𪲠repellent in the Spring or Summer. If you are disabled or dealing with health or weight issues, I don't recommend this hike. Forget the stroller, there are plenty of (I am Groot!) roots and 𪨠rocks to walk over. If you are a beginner at hiking đĽž, this trail is a good start. Parking đ żď¸ area is a bit small, but, you may have a good chance at finding a spot. I recommend a visit! The hike...
Read moreLovely hike with gorgeous views at the top! We parked at the Mt Percival trailhead and did the Mt. Morgan-Mt. Percival loop, which was moderately strenuous, starting off fairly gradual and leading to some steeper sections. This loop also allowed us to experience the caves, scrambles, and ladders, which were loads of fun. We had a member of our party who was a bit claustrophobic and afraid of height who had no problem with any of these challenges. Another member of our group hiked with their dog, and there were work around for some of the less-dog friendly parts. Please note that even though we went on a day that the weather wasn't the best, all three of the parking lots that provided easy access to the trailhead were overflowing. So, if you're planning to hike the loop in September/October, definitely get...
Read moreMount Percival and Morgan together make for an very good hike. There's plenty of variety and a cool cave passage just below the summit of Percival. You can also go art it if this section is too difficult. Pretty views of Squam Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee further South. You can complete a loop hike of about 5.4 +/- miles from the parking lot at Percival in 2-3 hours depending on how long you explore the area or hang out on either peak with nice views and spots to sit and eat. It's one of the best under 3000 vertical foot mountain hikes in the...
