From the moment we arrived at Buffalo Creek Vacations, we knew we were in for a treat. The Bison Overlook Cabin exceeded all of our expectations and provided an unforgettable getaway. Location: The cabin is perfectly situated, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The sight of bison grazing peacefully just outside the cabin was both unique and serene, making for a truly immersive experience in nature Accommodations: The cabin itself was a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. The high-quality craftsmanship was evident throughout, with custom-built beds that were both beautiful and comfortable. The rooms were well-stocked with extra pillows, blankets, towels, and wash rags, ensuring that we had everything we needed for a cozy stay. The kitchen was fully-equipped with tools/essentials making meal preparation easy and convenient. Basics such as dish soap, a new sponge, paper towels, and ice in the freezer were available as well. The cabin was impeccably clean and well-maintained, with cozy furnishings that made us feel right at home. Amenities: Buffalo Creek Vacations has thought of everything to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable. The outdoor hot tub allowed us to soak under the stars. The game room was a hit with everyone, featuring air hockey, shuffleboard, foosball, and pool. Additionally, having a washer and dryer available was incredibly convenient, especially for longer stays. Activities: There was no shortage of things to do. We enjoyed relaxing on the porch with a cup of coffee, taking in the stunning views. A highlight was the chance to be a ranch hand helper in the morning, feeding llamas, alpacas, goats, ponies, horses, and bison. This is for an additional $15 each person. This hands-on experience added a special touch to our stay, making us feel deeply connected to the surroundings. Service: The host Cheryl was incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed for a perfect stay. Meeting the owners and additional family members at their 20th-anniversary celebration, complete with delicious food and a talented live band, made us feel like part of the family, not just visitors. Overall Experience: Our stay at the Bison Overlook Cabin was nothing short of magical! It offered the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, allowing us to reconnect with nature in a truly spectacular setting. We left feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and already planning our next visit. If you're looking for a unique and memorable getaway, look no further than Buffalo Creek Vacations. The Bison Overlook Cabin is a gem that we wholeheartedly recommend. A solid...
Read moreBuffalo Creek is absolutely our family's long-standing yearly tradition now! We've gone every year for four years now, and we have no plan of stopping anytime soon! It is perfect for families with kids because you can 100% spend the whole week right there on the ranch grounds and never get bored. There's stuff for them to enjoy, like going to see the goats, llamas, ponies, buffalo, bunnies, donkeys, etc, make the short hike to the playground that they've built there (we love the zip line!) visit the model train room (which absolutely puts any other model train array to shame!) chill in the hot tub, cook smores, enjoy the cabin vibes, play in the game room...
It may not have all the touristy things nearby like Pigeon Forge or the beach, but that's perfect for us because we vacation with the intention to RELAX! There are still fun things nearby, though. We've done gem-mining, horseback riding, hiking, and the Great Smokey mountain railway, just to name a few things. There's obviously Asheville and its attractions about 30 minutes away too.
One of our highlight experiences from our most recent trip a couple weeks ago was Hollywood Game Night. It's one of the activities they offer to host at your cabin and Josh goes ALL OUT for a crazy fun experience that we thoroughly enjoyed! It is a mixture of games that involve charades, movie trivia, guessing games, film score musical chairs, and many others!
We had visited Tatonka Lodge with my parents and my sister with her 3 kids, so we had a group of 12 total, and it was the perfect size to accommodate everyone comfortably, and (remarkably) close-quarter grumpies were at an all-time low! We've also visited the Bison Overlook twice (which is our favorite experience so far, for being so close to all the animals at your back fence and having the best valley views), the Bison Escape (which is incredibly serene and right beside the donkey enclosure and some sheep) and we even fit our family in the orange Caboose for a couple days and loved it!
Bottom line, you just have to go to fully appreciate just how beautiful and wonderful this place is and these people are. We've grown to feel like Cheryl, Jeff, Dennis, Harold, and everyone else there are just part of our extended family now. They took SUCH good care of us and have always been the absolute best hosts we could ask or hope for!
We have so many great memories here, and we can't wait to create many many more! Thank you...
Read moreWe spent 2 nights in a caboose which normally costs $220-250 per night. This will include the small caboose (more details below), quiet remote location, farm with Bisons, Alpacas, Goats, tiny horse, Bunnies, etc. They have coffees in the "depot" along with some games that are all broken or missing pieces like Table Tennis tables, Chess table, etc.
Let's talk about the room. The caboose is said to be good enough for 2-5 guests but the caboose is so tiny that it's meant for a couple or a couple with toddlers. It does have a pull-out bed/sofa which seemed broken so we didn't even try. The room has a queen bed and a bed somewhere between full size and queen size above the bathroom similar to upper berth on a sleeping train that's only meant for small kids. I tried to sleep up there but the roof felt too low and because of that it was difficult to get up in the first place.
The caboose had basic appliances and utensils (which were dirty when we got there) like a Airbnb does but not enough space for more than 3 people to sit comfortably and spend time. We bought our board games and had to sit on the ground that covered all of the front which includes "living room" and "kitchen area." The TV satellite kept loosing connection throughout our stay and due to lack of space, the TV is too high to watch comfortably for long time. The door had crack in the bottom so bugs kept coming in. I don't even have words for the bathroom because it's SOO SMALL and claustrophobic.
We chose to bring our laptops too in case we had to work and it was difficult too. We couldn't sit outside because of a ton of bugs and couldn't work well because of pretty crappy internet. It's in a remote place so you can't even expect your phone service to work well to use your phone as hotspot. We were 3 and all had 3 different service providers but none of them were good enough for anything more than a voice call.
The overall property wasn't very well kept especially areas where animals are kept. Bisons were fairly small and just felt uncomfortable in the heat even though it was a cool 68-70 degrees when we were there. Same goes for Alpacas as well.
The only plus point was that it's in a remote place so away from pollution and just loud city and city things. So you can see clear sky with lots of stars and have a peaceful night's sleep. Kids can have fun being away from city but as adults, we wanted and expected it to be clean especially...
