My journey with Paul and Sommer (Thousand Petals Yoga) began in January 2014. I was a solo yoga practitioner for many years. I thought practicing alone was the best way for me to practice. I resisted group yoga classes, fearing distraction and comparison.
Thank the Universe that I let my resistance melt away. After hearing about Paul and Sommer for years, I decided to take a class. The minute I walked into Paul’s class I felt like I was home. He welcomed me like an old friend, sister, and community member. One practice and one moment led to the next and I completed their immersion program and teacher training. All OUTSTANDING!!!
In 2018 I crossed the line with my practice (pushing too hard and disconnected from the essence of yoga). I chose to step away from my mat and the community. It was one of the toughest decisions I’ve made.
After cultivating a deeper, more harmonious connection to my needs through meditation and qigong, I felt ready to return to my yoga practice. In June 2021, I walked into one of Paul and Sommer’s pop up classes at Sfeer studio. No judgement, only love welcomed me. I was home again.
I cannot say enough about Paul and Sommer and the community they’ve built. And now they're online!!! I can practice with them whenever I want.
Their unique, community-oriented, heart-centered style is unprecedented. Give them a chance. You will be glowing with gratitude at the end of your...
Read morePlayful and rigorous, joyful and strong, wise and whimsical, rooted deep in earth, sky, water, air, and tradition while creative and welcoming the new. It is a leap of faith to commend one's body and mind to the challenging practices of yoga and over many years I have always felt wonderfully protected, safe, and held with Sommer and Paul. It's been a beautiful, life-changing journey and i've learned in every realm from their teachings and example, Paul's silly puns, Sommer bringing me closer to the sacred, and both of their focused commitment and ability to connect our embodied practices to old and large teachings about how to be alive and to face even death. Even the shortest on-line practice squeezed into busy days brings me back to what matters and keeps me centered, the on-line live classes kept me sane and grounded during the pandemic, and the return to in-person classes is pure DELIGHT. I am so grateful for their care and challenge—without it i would never have written my last two books, as i recognize in my...
Read moreI started going to Thousand Petals last March, during a time of crisis. I was dragged to a first class by a friend. Last session I attended more classes than anyone else 39 classes over 13 weeks. I went there again this morning.- and I'll go again this evening. This has been a year of profound transition and loss and I don't really know that I would have been able to handle it so well without the yoga. To be clear, this is both a physically and emotionally challenging class that seeks to help students find balance both physically and emotionally. The process is deeply grounding, and the studio is a community as well as a facility. could not recommend it...
