Caney Fork — Local services in Carthage

I'll give this canoe trip 5 Stars being the landscape and everything was beautiful and clean. It was very relaxing and peaceful as we floated down on our vacation day off. However I was shocked to find out when I got there that it was $90 to rent one canoe. I have canoed many places throughout Tennessee and the most I have paid is $40. So I'm very confused as to why the price was so high. I understand they shuttle. all canoe places shuttle you to and from the launching area. Not all places have huge buses but I still think $90 was a little steep. And the water is consistently 50 to 56 degrees and it's impossible to swim in without going numb. Other than the extreme high cost to rent a canoe everything else was okay. The staff was nice and the place was very clean very orderly and conducted very mannerly. We had a blast! The rental place made a huge deal about the new generators (basically all but said we were all going to die if we fell off) because the current was insane and the water level was high. My friend accidentally dumped her 8 year old, and they had no trouble getting back in the kayak, and her son wasn't swept away. Lol The river current was definitely a little fast in the deeper parts, but nowhere near what they made it sound like. It was a great float, slight paddling needed for most of it but really just to steer. Great experience all around. I still love the caney fork after 30 years of canoeing and fishing, but the fact is, these canoe the caney kayak rental people have ruined it. Every weekend they drag on hundreds of partiers who kayak down the river with no respect for nature or anyone else. I wish they would all go back home to their down town condos and their Brentwood gated communities and leave the blessed caney fork and those of us who love and respect it alone.
