Big Diamond is probably the closest, 3/8ths or bigger dirt track to my home in Lebanon, PA. I can make it there in a little over a half an hour. It was a bit on the rough side, a long while back. But was put up for lease for 5 years by owner Fritz Roherig, to Barry Bashore and Buddy Biever. These two fellows transformed the place by remodeling and adding buildings. The track food menu also improved! After 4 years, Fritz took back control of the Speedway. From what understand, Fritz passed away, and his stepson Jake Smulley took over operations. I had my doubts for a while, but Jake has really gotten a handle on the track surface it's in pretty good shape, and the racing is usually VERY entertaining! I don't know why, but there's a spot coming off turn #4 that seems to dust up most weeks. But other than that, the surface is much improved in my opinion. The only thing I'd really like to see is better lighting at BD. I feel it would really bring the track up to a higher standard! Another thing about Diamond, they never have trouble filling the stands. They have a VERY loyal fan base! Good luck to Jake and Big Diamond for continued success! It's one of my very favorite speedways here...
Read moreIt was an awesome race, the stands were a bit rickety, but it's an old track. If you sit in the middle of the bleachers you won't be bounced around as much as I was sitting on the end near the steps. Anyone over 200 lbs and believe me there are alot of people going to races that weigh over 200 lbs would bounce me almost off my chair as they traversed the steps. Probably on their way to get another huge pizza slice. By the way the pizza was excellent and as most of the people there are probably locals who attend all the time, I know why they are in excess of 200 lbs. All kidding aside, it was a great race, the seats were great and you could see the whole course. The only thing I didn't like was the 1.5 hour wait to leave after the races were over. There's only one exit and unless you left before the race was over, you waited 1.5 hours to leave. Well, unless you were like some people and just cut the line, giving me the "You're number one" sign when I...
Read moreBeautiful facility! This last Friday I went with buddy. It was my 1st time to your beautifully kept racetrack. Basically, it's a perfect place for viewing as a spectator, not a bad seat. The track condition looked perfect from a fans point of view with really no dust. Wish we had that red clay surface at my local NY tracks. The racing was great, especially the ROADRUNNER street stocks. What show those drivers put on. It's a 3 hour ride for myself, considering I'm picking up my friend along the way. Easy parking, and they have preferred seating for handicapped and elderly. They're NOT second thought seats. They are right on top as you go in. They have very good concessions with good food and friendly staff. Was a little disappointed that they really had no souvenir stand. I always like to get a track decal for my truck and maybe a t shirt or something. Thank you for providing a great racetrack. You have moved right to the top...
