I am the Executive Director at the Fluffy Dog Rescue. I contacted Cedar Grove to do a vet history for one of their clients. Vet histories are important to us, as it gives us information about how the applicants past pets were cared for in a medical sense. The questions we ask are? Was the pet spayed or neutered? Current on rabies and distemper? Date of last heartworm test? When the last purchase of heartworm preventative was and how many? When asked these questions I was told, "Oh my gosh!" There was a lot of sighing. Then I don't know. Then yes, the did it. What was the date? No, I don't have any history of them doing it. So to clarify, the yes for heartworm preventative was in error. Yes! Ok thank you. Goodbye and a Goodbye and hang up. What the vets don't understand is rescues are where their next clients are coming from. For most adoptions we are asked, what would be a good vet for us to go to. We are asking this information because we care about the homes that our dogs go to. We want them to be well cared for and medically is part of that. The owners of these clinics need to meet with their front end staff and let them know where there paycheck comes from. If there is not enough staff to answer our questions, is there enough staff to care for your dog.
In response to your patient privacy comment. Yes, most vets require this. That is why we make the applicants agree on our application that they have contacted their vet to release records and in this case they had. This was not a matter of patient confidentiality, but...
Read moreIt depends on each visit, but the most recent visit I had wasn't the best.
I've taken my family's animals there throughout the years and have really good experiences. Unfortunately, there's one vet doctor I've remembered to be more condescending in how they speak and look when addressing issues. So, when I mentioned a couple of things I was weary of doing myself because my cat is very obviously bothered and pulls away with certain things (cutting nails), and that I didn't want to hurt him. The vet made made an unnecessary remark, like does cutting your nails hurt you.
For me, I'm not going to pull away or anything when I'm doing it, so the attitude was something I didn't care for.
It was weird that the vet said that among other things, but they needed assistance so my cat wouldn't pull away or jerk in a way that would cause pain.
The thing that I was grateful for was my cat receiving the care he needed as well as the lady at the front desk being understanding to a more personal situation.
I do want to say though, it matters how you speak to your clients, as I have had experience in customer service, because assuming things or just making condescending remarks turns people away.
I'm switching vets soon because of the commute being a major factor, but also glad I will not have to hear the vet doctor I...
Read moreWe brought our Puddin here for a 2nd opinion. We still like the first vet too but they were out of answers when Pudd had sudden and serious health issues (previously very healthy! But we understand that can happen we just wanted help). So after calling/screening dozens of vets while we kept her stable, we decided to try Cedar Grove Vet Services for Pudd's ongoing care, because: 1) they have large animal experience. Pudd is a dog, not a large animal but we needed help and I figured the large animal experience may broaden their approach. 2) there is more than one vet md on staff so more potential insight for uncommon issues, 3) they offer at least some after hours service, which to me lends credibility to the overall service. Thanks to Dr Dommer, Dr Reilly, Dr Mord and the rest of the CGVC team's help Pudd is still with us and still loving life. We don't know how things will go and it's not exactly how it used to be, but that's life...we appreciate that they've been willing to help us when we could see that Pudd was not ready to give up.
Edit 9/16/25: Awesome vet clinic...great follow support with Pudd and today they went above and beyond to make sure my other fur friend, Shadow, got in right away for urgent help on what seemed to be a very busy day already for them. Many...
