Reviews of my 2nd visit to a facility on 75 DFW / North Texas cities with 309 locations. This one is Alan Sims Recreation Center in Cedar Hill. DPA (Dallas Pickleball Associations) Rating: Overall, 8.8/10*. First visit here was back in Jan 2017. Location on 310 E Parkerville Rd, Cedar Hill, TX 75104. The Alan Sims Recreation Center now has 6 Indoor courts: wood floors. (8.7/10 Court rating). Three of the 6 courts were being used at my arrival time of 10:20 on Thur 08 29 2024. Court 6 is for Beginners. Courts 1-5 is for Intermediate and Advance players. If there aren’t enough players then Courts 4-6 will be used by basketball players. Pickleball in mornings (Mon-Fri) OP M/Tu/Th 9:30 – 12:30 pm; Wed: 10:20 am – 12:30 pm and Fri: 8 am – 12:30 pm. Level of competition on this Thursday was 3.2 to 4.0. The best competition is on Friday mornings 8 am – 11 am. Lighting was very good. Placing paddles in baskets between court 1 and 2. Lime Green Gamma Photon is the primary ball used. Ceilings are approximately 35 feet high great for lobbers. Pros: 6 courts and $5 DI; $20 month. $50 for 3 months; Free for most senior insurance programs. See flyer for more membership options. Not too crowded. Good Director for pickleball. Many Open Play times Total: 15 hours a week. Cons: Higher level of players needed during the Mon- Thurs. side note: Previous years a lot of quality players but there were only 3 courts for PB so the wait was too long.

We absolutely love the Cedar Hill Recreation Center. It is an awesome place to host our weekly DFWSwingout classes on Thursdays from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. We can charge a reasonable rate of $10 for each student weekly or $35 for each student monthly because they work so well with small businesses. The facilities are always clean and the recreation is well managed. If you're looking for a place to get your activity time in, check out the Cedar Hill Recreation Center and of course, stop by on Thursdays to join our class. We would love to get you moving!

Very very disappointed with the Cedar Hill Recreation. Me and my daughter went to the CHR to look at their rooms to book for her upcoming baby shower. Ellen first showed us one room, my daughter said that it wasn’t big enough so Ellen showed us the two rooms. My daughter loved it and said it would be perfect to host her baby shower there. Ellen told us that we should book the rooms that same day because they go fast. So my daughter paid the $200 security deposit to hold the two rooms. We did the paperwork etc to hold the rooms. Before we left we were told that we’d be getting a call from Andrew “Andy” to set up an appointment to come in and pay the remaining balance. I get a call from Andy to come in on July 25th at 6:30 pm. We arrived at 6:11pm and told the front desk we where there to speak with Andy for our appointment. The young lady at the front desk told us that he left for the day. She called him and asked if he forgot about our appointment and he told her yes he forgot so he had to come back to the rec. we get into his office. You could tell he was rushing us. He read the terms and conditions to us in 2.5 seconds. When he called me to set up the appointment he confirmed that it was for 2 rooms. After I signed the paperwork and paid the remaining balance of $310 he said we only booked for one room. We told him no we booked for two rooms. He then proceeds to tell us that someone else booked for the same day and time for those two rooms 20 DAYS AFTER US!!!!! 20 DAYS AFTER US!!!! He tells me that he’ll get it resolved and that I’ll get a call the next day from him. So when he called me the next day…he tells me that the next party had their hearts set on that date and time as if my daughters baby shower didn’t matter to her at all. I told I needed to talk to his manager. The manager is Ellen…the same lady who told us to book the two rooms that same day. She asked if we could change the time to either an early morning baby shower or closer to midnight. I told her absolutely not. Ellen and Andrew were more worried about accommodating the other party who booked 20 DAYS AFTER US!!!!!!! VERY...

Tried a 3 month gym membership to see how it compares with some of the other smaller gyms in the area. Their price can't be beat and you don't have to be a resident of Cedar Hill to join. Gym is pretty bare bones but offered at least one of every standard machine you would expect in a gym as well as a few treadmills and recumbent bikes (these are pretty popular there). There is a small but decent selection of free weights and barbell weight sets as well as some medicine balls, kettle balls, jump ropes and a few other random pieces of equipment for use. They also offer an indoor track for running/walking. The biggest problem I ran into were the other gym goers. I'm only referring to those who attend between 6-8am on week days. It was more of a social gathering for a larger group of retirees (not all were bad but the majority was enough to turn me off). I had people tell me I was using their machines when no one was actually using the machines, people would pull out 4 different sets of weights to do rotations which they never actually did or just did very slowly since they mostly just talked around the weights, and don't use the slam balls to do actual slams because as I found out the following day someone complained that "it's too loud"?!?!. Let's not forget the gym overlooks the basketball courts so how the noise level is any different I'm not sure. The gym goers also aren't very kind to trainers that offer their services at the gym. Each of the trainers that I interacted with were AWESOME! Very knowledgeable and offer their services at a very reasonable price...(ask for Herman). But management didn't seem to interested in helping curb the horrible gym etiquette most people exhibited while I was there. It may not be like this after 5pm or any other time but if your looking for a get in and get out before work gym I would not recommend...
