Northwest Recreation Center — Local services in Cedar Rapids

Rented the activity room for a party, which worked out beautifully! The staff was easy to work with and very accommodating. The cost was comparable to our church but had the added bonus of a kitchen and serving counter available in the room, including a nice sized fridge, a big sink, serving counter and a microwave. There were also other countertops with handy plug-ins for things like a toast and hot cocoa bar, and coat racks in the room as well. They graciously stayed past normal hours so our party could be extended to 8 on a Saturday night past their 6 open gym hours. The facility is quite new, in beautiful condition, has a screen and projector available for another $15 currently. They have many folding chairs and a number of seminar tables available at no extra charge, which can be doubled up to easily seat six. Plus, also have four card tables available. Some of our guests enjoyed the ping-pong table just outside the activity room, and our kids want to come back for open gym night some time. Beautiful gym space as well!! It's a very nice facility with great equipment. There were about 20 people there to play. We had 2 courts with 8 people playing per game. That was OK. The main problem was there were gym classes going on right beside us. It was very loud with lots of screaming children in the heat of playing. The sound was especially loud in the gym. The noise was deafening. We couldn't hear each other call scores. We will probably not be...

Nice, newer rec center to play volleyball and basketball. The front desk boss lady is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. She never attempts to be friendly. Said "hi, how are you?" And she just stared rudely. Even when we were there for a match and kids were being great, I noticed her glaring at us and others. Like we were doing something wrong, but we weren't....
