For some reason I have a love-hate relationship with this course. I love to go there to play because it's (relatively) affordable, but I hate myself for going because I keep getting reminded of how awful the course is. Went back for more punishment today and it only took a couple of holes to remind me.

The greens were horrible. There were bald spots and sandy areas that were nearly impossible to putt through. I only say "nearly" because you could get it through with a stroke worthy of Thor's hammer, but that's not the intent behind putting. Some of the fairways looked like they hadn't been mowed for a while. There were weeds ~1' tall all over the place on one. There were spots around some of the greens so wet that your ball would plug. I plugged one ball

I'm from Dallas so I booked my round on golfnow. I was amused because literally EVERY teetime was available on this Thursday morning, which was not very encouraging but booked for 10:00 anyway. I showed up at the course at 9:30 to find maybe 5 cars in the lot. I checked in at the pro shop and the guy at the desk said maybe 5 words to me. I had to ask for directions to where I should get a cart, find the first tee box, etc. I went to my car, loaded up my clubs and, to my chagrin, found a 4some teeing off at 952 and a 5some at 10:00 (my teetime). I thought about asking if I could play the back 9 first or the other course since no one was out there (pro shop could've offered that when I checked in), but ended up waiting 15 minutes and playing behind the 2 groups. The course could be nice if they put any money into it. The layout is really nice. However, everything from the smelly dirty clubhouse to the signage and cart paths have not been updated in 30 years. Teeboxes: B Fairways: C - huge bare batches and mostly very thin grass Rough: C - none to speak of mostly Greens: D - GUR Amenities: F - snack shack vacant, empty water coolers, no beverage cart Bunkers: N/A - if they have any, I didn't see them Service: F - no marshals, no cart girl, no...

Cimarron National has 2 courses. Today we played Cimarron, played Aqua 2 years ago. The course is in decent shape and is very challenging. Water comes into play on several shots, there are doglegs that force layups and there are plenty of trees to steer clear of. The drawback of this course are the fairways. Just in poor condition mostly and in need of water or better turf management. Fix that and we have a course worth the $40 green fee. There are water stations all over, a midpoint restroom, ball washers and marking signs with hole distances. Very well done. The greens are in great shape and are unlike many courses in this region and they were mid pace, which is perfect for Oklahoma courses, tee boxes were good minus maybe 1 or 2 on the back nine and cart paths were in good shape. Again, great job CNGC! The clubhouse is very old and if they updated this? It would be hard not to play here more often. Over all, this course is a good place to come enjoy a nice round if you cannot get on in OKC or other nearby courses. Again, if the fairways were in better shape, the stars would easily go to a 4 for me. Well done, Cimarron. You have a...

I have to say that this was the perfect place to hold our event. I had no idea. Such a hidden gem to make our daughter's and future son in law's announcement a beautiful evening. Our families enjoyed their food, drinks, and service. It didn't break the bank. Maggie, the event coordinator, was so helpful and very professional. I would like to say thank you as a new Guthrie citizen. Your (our new) town has such amazing hidden treasures that part of me wanted to keep a secret so family could always have opportunities to reserve. Then I thought, nah, I need to share, I was taught to share. I've never been golfing, but this is a bad ace place. 🤌 Thank you, Cimarron National Golf Course, for having a public facility.
