Visited this place during this past week. Let me tell you, as a horse owner myself, this riding stables has no business running a trail ride. If you have little children or are inexperienced, I HIGHLY advise to go on another trail ride. This is not a beginner trail ride for starters, this is more on the intermediate/advanced side. We had too many people in our group for only having one guide, who seemed to be inexperienced herself and not very attentive. The horses were severely over worked and by the time we got back to the barn, they were overheated. BUT this wasn't the only problem. For starters, we had several people who had never touched a horse before. They (as in the girl and her farther) gave them no advice on how to "steer" whatsoever and gave several beginners horses that shouldn't be trail horses. There were several people who were miserable and scared the whole time. I gave them more tips in 2 seconds than they got from the whole trail ride. The second MAJOR issue was right before we started, the young trail guide simply said "let's go" and started off as the trail ride instead of lining us up. The horses got agitated as they were all over eachother, as many normal horses were. Bad call on the trail guide because no more than 2 seconds later, a horse came at the one I was riding and missed the horse and bit my leg, which felt horrible. I have owned horses for 6 years and have never been bitten by one, much less a trail horse that should be docile. If I could post a picture, I would post one of the giant bruise on my leg. The horses were tripping everywhere from exhaustion and were grouchy the whole way. So for the worst part, as were almost there, a horse they had given to a young man reared up and fell on top of him, causing his foot to be injured. The horse completely crushed him, and the trail guide really didn't do much at all except say she was "sorry" and that there were water bottles that could be purchased for $1. He could've easily had a deathly experience which could've been avoided if given a more docile "trail horse". But, it gets better- she then proceeded to tell him it was never a trail horse and was the dads personal horse. BIG RED FLAG that she should've never let the horse out on the trail. She then tied up the horses without taking their tack off, with no water around and fed them. Anyone with any horse sense would know horses can colic (which is deadly) if you don't let them cool down. And of course the father was no where to be seen. So, if you are inexperienced, have little kids, or are just wanting a laid back trail ride, do NOT attend this one for your...
Read moreMy husband and I had an amazing time at Nashville Horseback Riding. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this business and our experience. I've been on many guided horseback riding trips and being an advanced rider, I usually leave feeling somewhat disappointed. Not the case here at all. We were truly aloud to ride to our experience level and everything was so chill and so relaxed.
We arrived on Saturday, met our horses (Aries and Tanner) and off we went. The staff took our camping gear to the site and set it all up for us. The trails and land were beautiful. We got to our beautiful camp site along the creek/river and our guides were so respectful to stay out of our way, but also give us everything we needed. They cooked us a wonderful dinner over campfire while we fished in the creek (All fishing gear provided by them).
After dinner we went on a 2 hour night ride. It was magical. We rode through the creeks, down back roads, through the woods, with no light other than a flashlight which was barely ever used. In all my years of riding, I've never done something so special. Simply trusting your horses eyes in the darkest of dark. Hearing all the sounds. It was amazing.
The next day we had coffee and ate breakfast provided by the staff and we rode for another 3/4 hours. We rode a lot in the creek. We took the horses in 5 foot deep water. These horses y'all, they were amazingly trained. Even my husband, who never rode before, was able to do things that usually only most experienced riders could do because his horse was so well behaved. We were able to run the horses, swim with them, go through super rural areas. We stopped at a beautiful waterfall and had lunch. Our guide tied our horses and left us alone for an hour. You just don't get that at most guided horse rides.
It was all around magical and 200% worth the price. I highly recommend this place to anyone. If you decide to book, let me know and I can get you a referral! Thank you so much Nachez...
Read moreI rode a horse for the first time today at Natchez Trace Stables, about an hour outside of Nashville, and it was a great experience. The drive is also beautiful—rolling hills, winding backroads, and peaceful scenery.
The team was organized and on-time. My horse, Beauty, a Tennessee Walking Horse, was super gentle and easy for a first-time rider, Courtney, who led the ride, was kind, knowledgeable, and clearly loves these animals—she gave the horses extra pets and made sure everyone felt comfortable. Austin rode in the back, and it was clear both he and Courtney are very experienced riders and know each horse well.
The trail itself was gorgeous even with a light drizzle—creeks, wooded paths, and wide Tennessee views. It was muddy from the rain, but that only added to the adventure. Don’t wear white - it’s not a fashion show! The horses looked healthy, strong, and well cared for, stopping for water and snack breaks along the way.
There are also sweet dogs that follow you around, mini horses, turkeys, chickens, guinea fowl and barn cats wandering about.
I read a few of the negative reviews and honestly don’t agree. The horses are not malnourished—in fact, they looked well-fed and cared for. With so many animals, you can tell the amount of work it takes to keep everything running smoothly, and the team clearly puts in the effort. As someone who is animal obsessed and categorically opposed to zoos, and other places where animals are mistreated (e.g., carriages in Central Park and elephant rides in Thailand are a HARD NO), I found this place and the team to be lovely.
The only thing I would say is that if you are looking for a more advanced ride, I would speak to somebody before just booking, as the group ride is more leisurely. Thank goodness for those of us who are beginners.
Overall, this was a fantastic experience. If you’re visiting Nashville or just looking for a quick day trip, Natchez Trace Stables is absolutely worth it. I would...
