Oh my gosh, let me tell ya’ll about the amazing Jordan...My mom gets her hair done at this salon by Brian (who has done my hair on and off since I was in 5th grade and always rocked it) and had first told me about Jordan when she told me she had a cat she was looking to give to a good home...so I first met her in person July 2020 to adopt the cat and I had dark brown, box dyed hair at this time and had been dying it the darkest shade of brown from the box for THREE YEARS at this point. My mom had been begging me to do something different with my hair for a long time and I told her I didn’t know anyone in the Newark, DE area who could do something edgy with it because I didn’t just want simple highlights; that’s when she mentioned Jordan from her salon who I got my sweet cat from! She said Jordan is always dying her coworker Megan’s hair different colors and is definitely capable of doing edgy. So September 2020 at my first appointment, I showed Jordan a pic of what I wanted and she told me up front that it was going to take several sessions to achieve because my hair was so dark and box color is typically hard to lift...In my mind, I was thinking I was going to have this silver/gray balayage within 3 sessions hahahahaha. Let me just say, THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE unless you are already blonde. After the third session and seeing how much work had been done already (full highlights, toning, more highlights and a shadow root by session 3), I realized it was a PROCESS that was going to take some time if I didn’t want every hair on my head burnt off from the bleach. I went every 4 weeks at first and last time was able to wait 6 weeks between sessions...last Saturday’s session was the closest we have gotten yet and I could not stop staring in the mirror!! My highlights are FINALLY looking platinum and the silver/gray tones are sticking. This is not something that can happen overnight or even in 4 sessions for most people if you are looking to do something drastically opposite of your current color. You have to be patient and TRUST IN JORDAN! My hair has NEVER looked so good or so dimensional in the sunlight. I have been seeing Jordan from Sept 2020-now (March 2021) so please realize that 6 months is really only like 5-6 sessions and if you want a hair transformation that you would see on Instagram or Pinterest, JORDAN IS YOUR GIRL, she knows these techniques and will make your vision a reality but be patient!! Look at the pics attached...before pic I’m holding my chopped, dark brown pony tail and present day is the selfie with my blue phone case in the mirror and platinum pony tail pic. These aren’t professional camera quality but you can still see what I mean as far as the major progress within that timeframe...and I’m still not done! BTW it is up to YOU as the client spending the money on these sessions to also consistently use the right hair products when you do something this dimensional. I have been washing my hair with blue shampoo since session one and use a purple mask about once a month to keep my tones bright.

If you’re from out of town and looking for a quality salon, this place is not it. They either don’t know what they’re doing or don’t care to provide high level services to match their premium prices. I reached out to 854 to schedule an appointment with Brian who came highly recommended. He was booked as most quality stylists usually are. Alyssa, the receptionist, recommended Jordan who (according to the bio on their website) is “an expert in personalizing color formulation and specializes in cutting edge coloring techniques”. Just look at my photos and see for yourself how that could be very misleading. After looking at their premium prices I figured I’d give Jordan a shot!

This was a mistake. I knew as soon as I sat down in her chair. The foil placements and just her overall attitude let me know I will not be leaving the salon happy that day. I paid $196 for a sloppy job that left me in tears and with split ends because there was zero effort to even get the cutting done correctly. I reached out to them the next day trying to get it fixed. I will say they did get me in as soon as they could but would charge me an additional $94.

There was not a single word of apology and Jordan instead did the absolute opposite and decided to just bleach my entire head. There was no conversation of how I wanted it done or that she would try her hardest to fix this.

To make matters worse, the owner Mellisa, dried my hair to “make sure the color was good” had the audacity to tell me my “hair doesn’t want to take color” knowing damn well it’s her girl that did not pay attention and missed a bunch of spots the first and second round of coloring. You would think with all the competition in town, she would at least pretend to care about new clients that walk through her door.

This was hard for me write as I do my best to uplift women and support women owned businesses. But they did me dirty and made no effort to fix it, so I will never return or speak highly of this place. I’ve been getting my hair done for 16 years now and I have never felt so mistreated. $290 and I’m embarrassed to be seen in public.

The only good thing that came from this experience is that I realized my regular girl (in Annapolis) is a rockstar and I should never ever take her for granted.

Take your money and time somewhere else, ladies. This...

Salon 854 was clean. I waited in my car till they texted for me to come in. There was sanitizer at the door. Everyone followed careful safety procedures for Covid 19. wearing masks and sanitizing surfaces. I felt very safe. Also through the quarantine, I really appreciated the Salon emails and updates as well as their community outreach.

Amber has both a high level of technical skill as well as an artistic sense of design with color and cut. After quarantine, I wanted to allow my grey to show through. Amber foiled and lightened my hair in a way that left it beautifully varied, full of light. My hair was soft and smooth. She also told me that if I decided I wanted to go back to full color or simply wanted some low lights put in, that those were options. See photos. My grey looks like...
