I've played this place a couple times and it's a pretty nice layout that's in pretty good shape. Shot variety is pretty high and you can walk it.
While there might be a hole or two that have twins, you'll end up using most of your clubs. And there isn't a lot of development around so it's easy to forget you aren't in a forest. (Well, you are... technically, but there's forest and then there's bush were you might never return. This place is that first kind.)
And a lot of courses these days have big issues with ball mark fixing and divot replacement. The people playing this course aren't perfect, but it seemed to be less of a problem than some other places. People ignoring ball marks is a pet peeve. Golf is thoughtful, not thoughtless. We give a crap about the group behind us, and we leave no trace. Thank goodness smoking is out of style, nothing like brushing butts out of your line. But I digress. This place isn't like that.
It's also walkable for most folks. You know your limits, I do not. But you don't have to be a mountain goat to walk it. There are a couple of long hikes to the next tee, so keep that in mind.
It's got a range, but no place for pitching practice. And the mats are kind of ragged. The good news is that if you can pitch off those mats you'll be ready for the grass, no problem. Also a tiny putting green that didn't represent the greens on the course very well. This paragraph is why it's only 4 stars. And it kind of pains me to do it as I would recommend this course. My problem is I play like crap if I don't warm up, so facilities matter. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could.
I didn't have much interaction with the staff, but the parking lot was full so they couldn't be all that bad. The cashier guy and starter were all friendly enough. We kept up with the group in front so they didn't have any reason to stop by and say hello. If you kept up with the group in front of you then they'd leave you alone too. Just saying.
In general a good layout that's in good shape for a reasonable price. If you're in the area and want to play you could do a...
Read moreCold, cloudy, misty day but that didn’t matter. The price of golf is reasonable but the price for a drive cart is outrageous. It’s $20 per person per car. That’s $40 per cart and a foursome pays $80 two carts.
The price of golf for the foursome was $100; a very reasonable rate for two seniors and non seniors, all city residents.
The price of two carts was $80; absolutely unreasonable and outrageous enough to never play there again using a drive cart or never playing there again-ever or until their rates for carts is reasonable.
The course is challenging but it’s not worth $20 per person per cart; $40...
Read moreI learned how to golf at Chicopee Country Club. We played on a $3 Junior Pass. Well I went on to be a PGA PROFESSIONAL in Western Mass. i went back today and I can HONESTLY say that I have NEVER seen the course in such beautiful shape as I did today. The greens, the tees were awesome. I really was treated like a KING and that is due to the Golf Professional and his staff. I couldn't have had a better...
