While we were at Rainbow Skateland two weeks ago, my oldest daughter asked if she could bring 2 or 3 friends there on her birthday. We hadn’t locked down any solid plans for her birthday gathering, and I knew we had spent everything we could on the experience gifts for Christmas and her birthday, so I said yes, we can do that, but I can’t pay for any friends to skate, just let them know that ahead of time.

2 or 3 friends turned into 10, as it does when teenagers make plans. I recruited a bestie to load her vehicle and accompany us, and after our dinner, gifts, and cake, we all headed to the skating rink. We know they don’t allow anyone in until the clock actually hits 7:30, so when that time came, we unloaded and walked into the entrance. I had all of the friends pay their way in and I went last with my three girls. There were 12 kids, plus 5 or 6 other girls who came to skate together. That was it. That was all who showed up to skate.

Within an hour of arriving, another member of our group arrived and said the workers had been complaining about our group- that we all paid individually and didn’t plan a party package. From 7:30-10, there were around 20 others (not in our group) who came into the rink to skate. It was dead.

The music was very low and hard to hear, which isn’t usual. The songs were all very dated and slow. I knew the songs, but the kids were all bored and wanting music they are into, so they started requesting songs. After 5 songs they were told this wasn’t their show and couldn’t request anything anymore. When they asked the DJ if they could say happy birthday to my daughter over the speaker, he said no because we didn’t pay for a birthday package.

The people working at Rainbow Skateland were incredibly rude to these girls. They were rude to us. I don’t feel like it was warranted in any way, as our girls weren’t being rude, they weren’t disrespectful in any way. They were actually all having a lot of fun and being so sweet to each other, since a few were inexperienced skaters. They were sharing and helping each other in the arcade. I didn’t see anything that these 13 teenagers did that alerted me to step in or say something.

For a business that is struggling, I’m really disappointed in our experience. Each girl paid $10 to get in and $4 for skates, three in our party of thirteen total had their own skates. They played games and used their money to get slushees, pizza, and popcorn. Most of the girls bought their own $4 blinking binky. They were the only ones buying any of those things. By my calculations of what a birthday package costs, the establishment made MORE money than they would have had I prepaid for a party package, and did less work doing so. From the time our group and the other skaters walked in, paid, and were putting our skates on was LESS THAN five minutes. And they all paid in cash. They refused to play any of the games we are accustomed to them doing every Saturday we’ve gone there, again, because we didn’t pay for a birthday package. We then heard about complaints over each of us paying in cash, individually. Again, I could not personally afford to pay for each to skate, they paid for themselves. And in the past when paying on cards, I’ve received complaints because there is an extra charge to use a card. Pick what you prefer. Or better yet, do your job with a smile and accept the business of children who just want to come to have fun.

If this business wants to survive I think they need to take a hard look at 1) how they treat people and 2) their music selection. Unfortunately when I posted about this on my personal social media, a number of friends commented they had similar experiences over the last two years and won’t be returning.

We won’t...

Updated Review 2024: Just wanted to update on the challenger league’s second year at skate land. Everything was great. The kids loved it. Their workers enjoyed it and parents were impressed with the facilities. Karrie was excellent as always. She went over and above on one occasion. Where I called her and asked if there was any way she’d be able to get a group of 25-30 kids in, due to a misunderstanding on where our original plans where. I called her and explained everything that was going on and she told me she’d be able to be there in 5 minutes. She opened the facility and we played put put. She was even able to make pizza when we asked. She’s an amazing worker, extremely efficient, and was able to work with us at every level. We look forward to having more events with her in the future. Thank you.

Our 11 year old had so much fun at his party today! We wondered if it would be chaos when we saw a little girl was having a 20-person guests party nearby (God bless em!) but happily, not at all. Everything was organized like clockwork.

The hostess was wonderful, and so was the DJ, the staff, and Gary at the door checking in guests and making all feel both welcome and safe... A nice, clean, family-oriented seeming business-- they all keep things running smoothly and are very in tune with each other, from the help-the-little-ones Attendants on the floor, to staff patiently helping kids cash in arcade tickets, to refilling pitchers, etc! They were especially adept with keeping guests' needs in mind before we even knew we needed something And even when we asked to add a last minute activity- and it was seamlessly added, no problem.

We've paid a lot more for the Rochester/Buffalo kid-party places... and all we can say is, Niagara/Orleans County people? Don't overlook this gem just because it's not fancy, or because it's the same place you went 20,30 years ago. Some things aren't supposed to change. And also? Grown ups? Go ahead and skate with your kids! You'll pick it right back up, second time around the...

So here's the skinny, we had a party for my daughter that had to be rescheduled because of Snowvember and luckily almost everyone was able to make it and the lady made it easy to reschedule. Communication prior to the party was great as well. The rink is large and offers plenty of space. Its reasonably priced to throw a party for your child. There are different party packages we took the second option with unlimited soda, two pizza's and aparty favor for every kid. The kids had a lot of fun. The were a few issues one was that it cost three dollars per PVC Roller Skating Trainer which I had to purchase for more than half the kids - very unexpected expense. If they told me before hand I would have been better prepared. Also the pizza didnt have any taste whatsoever and you are not allowed to bring in any food other than a cake or cupcakes. Also they only turned the blacklights on at the end of the skate, it would have neen nice to have them on the whole time. The last issue was there wasnt any soap to wash your hands in the mens room, dont know about the ladies room. Would have given them 5 stars if it wasnt for the issues listed. Overall it was a great experience, though.

This was an impromptu father Sonday mission. Since my son had been practicing ice skating I thought it might be nice to try skating and bring back some memories of my childhood. Well this place definitely nailed it. 👌 first I found that they have great skates there to rent- very clean and newer looking. Also i got my son a skating assit thing with wheels for like 3 dollars. That was a great way to get him going in the ring. The skating itself was pretty empty probably because there was a game going on? That was great because we got to practice. There is a food area there but we didn't bother as we assumed no vegan options. My son also liked the arcade. We had a great time. I definitely recommend this place.

I have been skating here since I was a little kid and I have always loved it. They do really really need to buy new skates though. They have seen better days. They didn't even lock even after I got another pair. I also thought $13 per person was a little expensive but its whatever. We still had fun. They place was WAAAAYYYY over packed for covid being around. But the food prices are cheap. & the staff is nice so obviously im coming back lol
