This is seriously a diamond in the rough! This store is located in the middle of a little bitty town. If you're a traveler and you blink you might miss the whole town. My mom, 2 kids and I went in about 5:45pm and were amazed at the selection. If you have children that enjoy rocks this place is AMAZING because they have hundreds of varieties of small tumbled stones for a buck or two. The store owners were really cool as well! The lady behind the counter showed my kids a lot of really neat traits about some of the rocks and while she was doing that her husband was bringing in boxes from a rock show they had just been to. He saw we were admiring the Dragon Stone and brought out a large box of flats for us to look at. Seriously nice people. I looked at the clock as we were about ready to check out and it was 7:15pm! The store closed at 7! Oops! But everyone was super nice about it and the owners didn't complain one bit. I can't wait to go back and visit this store again! Read moreI am a bug hobbiest of collecting rocks and I can say with full honesty that the Hound Dog is one of the best places to go for collecting rocks or finding your needs on the metaphysical side of things. Mr. And Mrs. Hound dog take great care into organizing their hand picked stock. They both are also very knowledgeable about their trade and are willing to answer questions or just simply show off some of the more unique properties of their rocks.
There was even one time they brought in one of their own personal collection to show the magisty of minerals, to which I wanted to send to my fiance. Mr. Hound dog not only gave it a better location for pictures, but also went out of his way to bring it outside and hold it so I could get a size comparison. One of my favorite places to go and it makes me glad to have met the owners. You will not regret checking...
Read moreI grew up in this little town and can honestly say this wonderful shop has put Clarence on the map. My father introduced us to the shop & it’s gracious owners when my daughter was into pretty rocks! Now, at 18, she is into the power of crystals. We recently found out our neighbors lost their only child in a tragic auto accident. I called from Chicago to see if they could make me a healing bracelet for the grieving mother. So kind, and my gift was sent out the same day w/ a copy of postal receipt. I love this wonderland and the owners are so knowledgeable, accommodating and kind, it makes me want to move out of Chicago & back to a place that was “Once Upon A Time In America”. Anyone leaving less than 5 stars must have opened a door in another city, or be a direct descendant of Scrooge. lol. My happy place. I hope...
